Check out RT Systems, they have the software and cable packages. A quick Google search should get you where you need to be

New Ham here. I just got this radio last week and I’m going through the software and it occurs to me that I’m not really sure what the frequency offset for all of the repeaters I might use are. In look at your layout it seems many of the repeaters you use have lot of different frequency offsets. How did you find those?

Also, A lot of the repeaters in my area require CTCSS tones, BUT in the software spreadsheet there are two options – “Rev. CTCSS” tones and “User CTCSS” tones, do you know what the difference between the two is?

I was wondering too if you wouldn’t mind making a short video on how you access the the stations in memory on the actual radio and how to access the Groups/Banks and what it actually looks like on the radio’s screen?

Well most of the repeaters I have in here I had gotten from my uncle. However there are repeater directories out there, as well as websites with repeaters listed.

As far as the EMS/Fire/Emergency frequencies I had in there, I found them on radioReference for my area.

Alright, thanks for getting back. Everything seems to be working correctly here and I got some help from some good folks over at QRZ as well. One other question I have is that I was wondering how you were able to rename your bands from “Band 1”, “Band2” etc. ?

I dont have the software in front of me, but i recall having to go into a menu and there was an option to change the band names. You can also change it through the radio manually by going to the Menu, and then #8 should be band name.

Just a clarification, the Yaesu VX-8R will receive emergency service frequencies (Police, Fire), just not transmit on them, or if you have the frequencies, can you transmit? I understand legality is another issue, but does the radio have the capabilities to do it?

It Cannot transmit on those frequencies regardless of how you have them programed in.

However, if you perform the MARS mod, it can transmit on them.

Sounds like the Drivers for the USB cable arnt installed properly.

Try running the software CD again and making sure the USB Cable installs correctly. past that, id say contact RT systems to see if they can troubleshoot the issue.

Did you manually enter all that data? Or did you export it from another source before importing it into RT Systems? Wondering if there is there a way that I could find someone who already has all this data for my area and is willing to share.

I manually entered all of my frequencies into the program before importing them to the radio. It goes pretty quick if you know which stuff you want. Fire/ems/state police You just kinda plug away and since you only have to do it once, its not too bad.
