My Amatuer Radio Station.

The setting up of my station is a long process, so further parts are to come as completion milestones are achieved.

With the new equipment I have been procuring, I needed to rearrange the ham shack somewhat. Here’s the new listening position. Recorded on January 15, 2012 using a Flip Video camera.

Here I modified an old Radio Shack ground-plane VHF/UHF scanner antenna for better reception on GMRS UHF frequencies (467.xxxmhz) as well as monitoring my counties local fire department which is 151.385mhz. I used standard welding-rod which solders very easily. I made all the radials as well as the verticals elements slightly longer than the original. Sealed the antenna with standard hot glue, to help keep out moisture. Thanks for watching!

Some ham radio guys. Howard, the guy with the blue shirt had just introduced me to Bob wa2exz and his wonderful Jeep. He is not shy keying in on letting people know what he really thinks.

An update of the ham shack after the lighting strike a couple of months ago. By being frugal I’ve been able to get back on the air for a reasonable investment.

Finally bought a decent power supply (from a Circuit City store that was closing) and finished this setup in the laundry/closet/back-entrance room. The three ham radios were previously running, not very well, off an old computer power supply. The radio on the wall is a Radio Shack FRS/GMRS desktop I found on clearance one time. The two handhelds on the windowsill are scanners. My primary and best scanner is not shown, since it is connected to the desktop in the living room for offsite access over the interwebs.

Vintage Fortified Bunker..

Vintage kwansit hut bunker with sandbag fortification.

Mather AFB outer grounds (Abandoned)

This unit, (if not already), is likely to come down, as the county extends a major road, right next to the Bunker.

Inside this bunker, appears to have once been an Air Force radio repair shop. The ultimate reason for being buried, could have been for shield out spurious RF emission, (Radio Noise) for a better instrument calibration environment.

This would make a great lowband Ham Shack!! 😉
