Playing around with the Yaesu FT-980 I have been working to restore. These are great rigs from the days when every function had its own knob or button, and there were real meters instead of LCD screens. This radio has a very low noise floor and sensitive receiver, which rivals any other rig I have owned. Hopefully it holds up as parts are getting near impossible to locate anymore.

Boat anchor my ass!!! Lol!!!! they are better than today’s plastic radio that are noisy and weak! I had a 756proIII and I sold it and rather operate my ft 102! Parts can still be found for all these radios “maybe not at your local shit shack… Oops radio shack” but with the Internet anything is found.

@minimaluhftv My phrase “boat anchor” refers to the weight not the purpose of the radio. I agree about the 102 which i also have, it is a truely superb radio and makes a crackin door stop aswell lolol…

I just picked up a 980 a bout a year ago….. just getting back into ham radio after 35 years and wanted something I could fit my fingers around…. although this is an older rig it fit the bill. I have a probem with the S meter and receiver sensitivity…. have you had any problems with these issues?
