Our amateur radio enthusiast buys another ham radio instead of attending to the needs of his family. His wife is not pleased. This animated cartoon was my first attempt at creating a computer animated short film. The script idea comes from an accumulation of so many conversations overheard at various radio events. No offense to anyone intended, even if you are guilty of this. Enjoy.
This is my third visit as a guest ham radio operator aboard the USS Pampanito that is docked at Pier 45 at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. It is great to be in a historic submarine and to give ham radio operators a contact from a very unique ham radio station. USS Pampanito (SS-383) is a World War II Balao class Fleet submarine museum and memorial that is open for visitors daily at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf. Pampanito made six patrols in the Pacific during World War II during which she sank six Japanese ships and damaged four others. Operated by the Maritime Park Association, Pampanito hosts approximately 110000 visitors a year and is one of the most popular historic vessels in the country. In addition to day time visitors, over 15000 kids a year participate in Pampanito’s educational day and overnight programs. Pampanito is a National Historic Landmark. The Pampanito is being restored to a specific point in time, late summer, 1945, to represent the height of WW II submarine development. The Maritime Park Association has scoured the country in search of missing equipment and spare parts. Almost all of the missing items have now been replaced and much of the equipment on board has been restored to operation. This is a video of my Yaesu FT-857D and ATAS-120A installed on a 2006 New Beetle TDI. It’s purpose is to show you some of the capabilities of the Yaesu FT-857D and ATAS-120A Active Tuning Antenna System also made by Yaesu. I have installed the radio using the Separation Kit from Yaesu for FT-857D and it has been working like no other. I am so pleased with this system that I may get a second set for field operations such as portable or during when I am hiking. If you have any question about my setup, or if you’re having problem with the ATAS, drop me a note, and I will do my best to give you some pointers. I spent many weeks perfecting the installation and right now, I have zero issues with ATAS. There are lots of information out there on the Internet but the important ones I found by experimenting. If you’re on the fence about this setup, don’t because it works really well. RF grounding braids are very important – I think they are the most important than any other types of grouding for the ATAS. Fortunately, I have a unibody vehicle which makes grouding a bit easier. However, if you have a body on frame vehicle like SUV or pickup truck, I would really ground multiple points underneath the vehicle. 73 from Pete KC2ZXL

This video presents an inexpensive approach to detecting and recording directed energy weapon attacks using relatively inexpensive equipment. The modifications to the digital voice recorder depicted here required a basic understanding of circuitry and soldering techniques. The total cost of materials is under 200 dollars and depended primarily on the cost of the digital voice recorder. Be sure to buy a digital voice recorder that allows you to upload the recordings into your computer, and one that has two microphones if you choose to do the modifications. WARNING – this will not stop directed energy attacks, but will provide reasonably credible evidence that you and your voice recorder are being exposed to pulses of radio frequency radiation of sufficient strength to compromise the audio circuitry in the voice recorder.
