Adding inductance lowers the resonant frequency of the antenna – great! It also increases the Q or sharpness, so reducing the frequency range it can be tuned over – not so great. This worked quite well on 6m, but I had better luck on HF without the coil.

The DAIWA Model CNW-518 is rated @ 2.5 kW RF PEP output for the Ham Bands of 3.5 to 30 mHz. This antenna tuner has be modified to include some of the out of band frequency in the upper bands from 20 meters to 10 meters. This mode was probably made for MARS operation. Backscatter

BACKSCATTER – interactive visuals, music, performance by Wetcircuit (Holly Daggers). Premiered at ReVISION by Forward Motion Theater January 14th, 2011 Backscatter technology is used by the TSA — a division of Homeland Security — to perform random full-body scans of airline passengers. The scanners create “ionizing radiation”, X-rays powerful enough to strip molecules in the body of their electrons. Charged particles launch from the skin back into the scanner, producing a ghostly nude image that is literally created from body matter. Fourth Amendment rights are forfeit when passengers consent to the search.

Testing of a newly-built 160 metre AM transceiver at Chelsea on Port Phillip Bay near Melbourne. The receiver featured in a previous video. The transmitter is similar to the one presented here: www.angelfire.com It is crystal controlled on 1843 kHz. A centre-tapped 15 volt 1A power transformer is used for modulation. Efficiency is quite high – total Tx power consumption is 1A for approx 7 watts out on peaks. The IRF510 final stage does however need to be presented with an acceptable antenna impedance otherwise distortion can appear on the output, as happened here (the switched inductor in series with the antenna has since been replaced). The transmitter’s circuit is described in ‘Lo Key’ September 2011 – published by the CW Operators QRP Club.
