YAESU VX-3R CW Training, Morse Code Training

Some helpful hints on how to save time when entering text on the Yaesu FTM-350 radio. This works most areas where text can be edited on the radio (eg APRS, memory labels and prepared messages) Seems to be many different methods depending on where you are in the menus: text entry: left wheel, Up/Down buttons, DTMF keypad cursor position: left wheel (push), right wheel rotate, arrows, or A/B buttons

I Hope I Never Need To Text Somebody That Bad To Warrent This…Seems a lot of hassle…Just text your mate on your mobile phone and tell him to get his arse on the repeater!

You can save some of them as “canned” messages.. just recall them to save time. But you are right I won’t be doing a lot of chatting via APRS.

True. But for me, it is faster if I think character, move, character, move… etc. I don’t have to think if the next letter is on the same key or not

I would like to see radio mfgrs get away from this old slow tech and put a touch screen on the microphone. they need to get with the times and update their tech to make it easier and faster to use. If you had some sort of emergency where you just had to use the text as your only option you may be SOL. Icom is comming out with a touch screen soon, I think they are starting to move toward touch screen tech finally.

I agree. But adding a touch screen may be a bit expensive. They could at least add a usb port to plug in a keyboard, or perhaps take advantage of the bluetooth module (which I don’t have) and get an app on your phone that uses the phone’s keyboard.
