This is pretty amazing considering I was only using a temporary portable 40 meter dipole on a “painter pole” mast only about 14 feet above ground! Again, not bad copy between Huntsville AL and near Tyler TX. Thanks for uploading.

Tnx for the follow up comments. Yep, not bad at all. My antenna is a dipole only 20 ft at one end and less than 10 feet off the ground at the other.

Yes, I do enjoy using the 950. I have had it for about four years. Never has let me down. I only run barefoot through an assortment of diff. antennas. Best of 73. AI4QT in Huntsville AL.

Nice video John. I also have a 7200. How do you like it on cw? Mine sounds good on SSB, but does not seem to do as well as my 7000 on CW.

Tnx for your comments and for watching my videos.

As for the 7200, it is my primary CW rig. I especially like the filters and the Twin PBT. In my experience, once a little tweaking between the PBT and the filter, I can get a very good CW sound with very little ringing even on the very narrow filter setting… In comparison, my ICOM 703 needed a CW filter installed and although very narrow, it really rings when the filter in engaged.

    Sandy,
Always good to hear from you. Yep, I had to fall off the wagon for a few days and go SSB to talk to Wil for a time or two. Don’t worry, the mic quickly went back in the drawer and the key hooked back up. SSB just is not the same as CW by a long shot 🙂

BTW: I am sure enjoying your adventures in knife making. You are turning out some beautiful examples of craftsmanship.

Thanks John, I also have a ‘703 and the cw filter in it is 350Hz, just the right filtering for it. Anything more narrow would probably cause the ringing that you mentioned. I like my ‘7200, but another external speaker is better than the one included in the rig. 73, Curt

    Nice Video John,
The docs with the IC-7200 seem to assume the new owner has already operated a HF rig using DSP, etc. Nice to see your video of how to use some of the filter capabilities ‘in action’. I’ll checkout your other videos too.

    Augie,

Thanks for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed the video, the 7200 is working out to be a very nice rig. I mostly use it for CW and the filters really come in handy.

I have the same mill as you, I just bought, on my mini mill I can put a bar in to hold the spindle while I change collets, my question is ? Is there a spindle lock or hole where it’ll lock while change the collets. Hope this makes sense?

Great practical video! I’ve been lately using my vintage novice station (a 1967 vintage station) that lacks all those tools. I’ve leant to appreciate all the features in my modern ring since then.

    Roberto,

Good to hear from you again. The IC-7200 has proven to be a very nice radio, especially on CW and Data modes with the filters and USB direct connection for data.

However, I also enjoy the simpler rigs. I recently purchased a TenTec Century 21 (I had one several years ago and regretted selling it). It is something nice about being able to use a simple rig and make successful contacts.

    73 my friend.
