That was pretty interesting, i used to have the optimax winamp plugin on my old computer. I often use DSP myself in my videos, usually I cut the low frequencies below 300hz and use a little noise reduction, as my camera’s sound isn’t very clear and often quite “boomy”, I also have to take the noise out of the video, because the video on my camera is often grainy, like bad TV reception, yet its completely digital.

I figured you would be into it, too… I think OctiMax is the best sounding DSP that was ever offered for WInamp. Unfortunately, it’s not available anymore. 🙂 JC

Thanks for this video, it was very interesting. I have the QCD and Optimax and it really does make a super change and improvement in the sound!

I tried Octimax years ago, but it sounds like you’ve managed to get far better results from it than I ever could. The same guy who created it, Leif Claesson, now has a DSP processor called “Breakaway” which is far more advanced and can legitimately match the performance of hardware processors.

I was able to get fairly decent results from Sound Solution, but only after heavy tweaking away from the default settings.

I trued Breakaway but I did not like that it processed anything coming out of the PC… I need a plug-in to convert files. I never got SoundSolution to sound good at all… Too much going on. I’d like to hear what you did with it! OctiMax processes too hard on the standard pre-sets. I figured out that it creates a configuration file that I could manually change the variables in to get it to do what I wanted. It was a bit of a pain to do but the results ere worth it. 🙂 JC

    Hi JC!

I just downloaded OctiMax from the Winamp Plug In list. It may just be a trial version but have been running it for a week now with no problem. Love it! Still playing with the settings…

Question: Can I get your mods for it? Please? Pretty Please???

    Tnks!!

It’s the single version of “I’ve Been In Love Before” by The Cutting Crew. It made it to #9 Pop in the US in 1987. 🙂 JC

yep, gotta love the Bubble Bobble 😉 it reminds me of being a kid, I spent hours playing that game! I also like a bit of Duck Hunt and Mario Brothers, but the game that got me started was Dizzy’s Excellent Adventures, you know that little egg thingy? I had a copy on tape for the ZX Spectrum, I was gutted when the ZX broke, it started to emit smoke – never a good sign!
