Video shows my tower and Delta Loop repaired and being raised with the winch and winch pole. The winch is an inexpensive Chinese made 3000 pound ATV unit. Th…

The only thing i dont like about the V Quad is it hangs off to one side.
Thats hard on a light duty rotator.

Thank you. Local I’ve made contacts over 100 miles via ground wave. DX I’ve
talked around the world on it. It’s not necessarily the best for local
because of the corner you have to feed it from. I’ve tried both
orientations that are suppose to be vertical. Unfortunately in my
experience neither are 100% vertical, mostly but not completely. It seems
to always be vertical and horizontal. Therefore I guess I’m going to make a
change and use this array in the 100% horizontal config. 73’s Paul

@TheZeke1974 If you run it vertical then yes. But in horizontal
configuration you can run it upright and therefore balanced.

@m0ogy Dang Dave. You got a brand new Comet and that big JoGunn Yagi as
well. I won’t even mention all those omni’s you have. 😛 I hope they
legalize midband for all of you so you can work those arrays to state side.
Do they sell, or use to sell, the Maco antennas in the UK? Just being nosey
as to how you ended up with the new Comet. Did they use to sell the
JoGunn’s there as well? Or are people buying them from the states and
    having them shipped over?

@m0ogy Thank you Dave. It’s not as nice as you’re tower setup but I’m
extremely pleased with it. Never had a motorized break over before and
still wouldn’t if it weren’t for my friend Jimbo. I’m very partial to that
old Ford F100 as well. It’s been a good old truck.

@BestBoardsDR Thanks John. It has better rejection off the sides than the
back. I will try to make a video showing one of my locals with the delta
loop pointed in different directions sometime in the near future. How is
your quad project going? 73’s Paul

Have you ever considered putting a pulley at the tower then running your
winch line back to your winch pole? I’m far from an engineer but pretty
sure that would make it a lot easier on everything… Not that I think its
a taxed system ya got, just thinking maybe a couple dollars could make a
decent difference, especially if you ever wanted to add to your tower.

Hello. No I have never considered that. I don’t feel a need to change
anything because there is hardly any load on the pole and winch as it is.
The pulley is above the halfway point of the tower height. Therefore I can
add 10 more feet of tower easily without changing anything and 10 feet is
all I’m ever going to add. The winch pole is heat treated oil field pipe
and the pulley is an American made unit rated way beyond any weight and
forces I’m subjecting it to. 73’s Paul

@TheZeke1974 The Astrobeam is the one array I want to try someday before I
die. I have a feeling the hubs are broke or missing on yours. The plastic
hubs were the most common problem with them.

@irishham1127 LOL thanks. The old F100 is great until you need to out fuel
in it. I believe it only get about 8 miles to a gallon of gas. 🙁

Those Vector 4000’s are a great performer. In my area vertical is all the
locals use and therefore I have decided to go with a yagi for local
vertical use and switch the delta loop to horizontal. The delta is great
for DX but it has only been so so for local since I couldn’t get it 100%
vertical. Many local stations I talk to are over 40 miles away, some up to
100 miles, and therefore I need more vertical gain. Hope to catch you on
the band soon Ian. 73’s Paul

@Karl036 Yea I can understand about the shipping being really high. Some
advice is to make sure the U-bolts for the boom and elements are very
tight. They use muffler clamps and therefore the shackles are smooth. It
helps to rough them up or cut some teeth in them. Another option is a
machine screw or bolt through them like shown in the manual. I didn’t do
that because I don’t like drilling holes in the boom.

@MAG315 Thank you. The break over works very well. I may switch antenna
arrays next year. Have a line on an Avanti Astro Beam. Always wanted to try
and Astro Beam before I kick the bucket. I’m very fond of the truck. It has
86000 something original miles on it. A family owned it and used it mainly
for camping trips. It had one of those big in bed campers on it. The whole
history including the original sales receipt and manual was in the glove
    box when I bought it

@Karl036 Thank you Karl. I believe you will like the delta loop/Maco
V-Quad. It has a very wide band width and very good performance for the
size. I’d like to thank you for buying an American made product as well.
They’re made here in my home state of Illinois. 73’s Paul
