what would help you is if you got a better radio and you didnt have the coax converters in your window and just have one solid pice running through it but other than that its a nice set up. P.S if you want a good amplifier that will work without lowering the radios dead key wattage. you might want to get a “fat boy” linear amp becuse they are tough and have alot of wattage. or wire up an rfx-75 replacement final and get up to 100 watts.

Hey, you need to get rid of that patch and the TV cable. CB coax is supposed to be 50 ohms impedance and im not really sure what impedance that ribbon is. Either way its a bad impedance bump in the line. I would also try putting 4 ground radials at the base of your antenna coming down at about a 45 degree angle. Check your SWR. I woudnt run an amp with your set up as it is now at all. Instead of buying a linear amp now i would go and buy a good base antenna first, i recommend an imax 2000.

I am working on a better radio. I’m still very unsure with what i am going to do with my setup there will be a lot of rearranging done with it considering i will be investing in a vehicle soon so i’m still not sure what i will move where. But my only real problem is running straight coax outside with out letting the cold in especially now. Any suggestions for that?

Yes the tv cable mess of adaptors is just to get me by for now, just a temporary thing. Any suggestions on how to run that coax outside without letting the heat out and cold in without drilling holes? Also i like that antenna i think i shall make a purchase when i move to the ham looks like an absolutely fabulous antenna for the job and price. 😀

Hi Macintosh Wizard. Thanks for the comments on my CB Radio video. I thought I would stop by and watch your video to try to understand your SWR issues. You mentioned that your SWRs were 3.2 right now.
First thing: Are all your coax cables/connectors 50 ohm Impediance. That could be part of your issue. If they’re not designed for 50 ohms you will have a impediance mismatch with your radio and your antenna. Which would make your SWRs high.

Second: Your antenna mount is grounded to earth but you may have a weak ground plane for the antenna because of the antenna’s height above the earth. My version of your antenna rig has two semi horizontal 108″ copper grounding wires attached just below the antenna on the mast. This creates an artificial ground plane for the antenna. I’l attach my video to this page. This is a great learning experience for everyone!

Thanks to you my SWRs are 1.3 on channel 1 and 1.5 on channel 40! I didn’t have to do any trimming to my antenna! I will be making a video of what I have improved, thanks.

Hi HPD. The Antron 99 antenna is a different antenna design than the 102″ SST whip. It has something called “Twin Ring Adjust a Match” tuning. Apparently a tuning coil. Your owners manual probably explains tuning. To research tuning technique for your antenna, type “Antron 99 antenna tuning” into a search engine and you’ll get better information.

I’m not sure if you are still reading posts on this video but here is what you do. Remove one windowpane have a piece of plexus glass cut to the same size and have a one inch hole drilled into the pane. Then glaze the plex pane back in place. Buy one inch PVC pipe connectors the kind that screw together and secure into the hole. Run your cable through the opening then seal around the cable with silicone. If you move or need to take your set up down then just replace the glass you had taken out.

Those are mobile antennas, get a Antron 99 18 ft base ant. When you get a base ant. get new coax, no patch’s just do it right for best performance.
