In days long since passed, amateur radio first experiences were to build
your own radio set. Now can spend 30 bucks and get one that is way more
complicated than the average person can comprehend, and it has a China girl
voice to talk to you. My recommendation? Get a pair of CB radios and
learn how to use those first. Then maybe some FRS (Family Radio Service)
radios. Leave these complicated radios to the hams that actually have a
license and the know how to operate them.

Now I see why one said DA question, no direct 12v to radio, Battery is 7.6
volt. You can leave it on and in the bay but I would not walk away from it,
like that. Why would anybody want to have a wire tethered to your radio?
Have fun, learn something. Any half brained human can figure out the radio,
    read too!

What is the range on these radios? Everyone I call in my city/region is
within 50 KM range of me. We don’t have any mountains or hills and live a
valley. The only obstructions may be apartment buildings in the city though
I don’t live in front of any directly. Any idea if I can just throw out my
phone, buy everyone these radios and talk to them through this radio as
    opposed to the telephone?

Yeah, I don’t know if your question was answered or not, yet, but you
should have no problems with your battery as long as it stay out of direct
sunlight. In other words, keep it off the dash. Probably the glove box or
under the seat or in the center console is the best place. Also, I would
recommend grabbing a copy of an amateur radio operator manual and reading
up about frequencies, repeaters, etc. There also is a way to charge it
without an ac adapter or dc adapter, but essentially you would be charging
it with one way or the other because sadly we never got to have wireless
power. You would have to make your own charger that works for that specific
battery which means you may want a diagram to see which terminal is ground,
which is positive, negative, and so forth. But, if you have a dc charger I
would recommend using it unless you really want one you can just pop on to
a car battery or outlet, or whatever. But basically, rule number one is
read up before you use it so you don’t do anything illegal. Also, your wife
would need to have a license and a callsign to use one unless you are in
her presence while operating and allow her to use your callsign.

If you don’t know what to do with a HAM Radio, how did you get licensed?
I’ve been licensed for a year now and before I ordered even a starter
baofeng, I studied up on how to use it, repeaters in my area, and asked
around about it to learn how to use the technology correctly. It seems
irresponsible not to research before you buy something that spits out EMF
radio waves that can hurt someone.

I will say you are a idiot for buying that Baofeng piece of junk, you get
what you pay for.You should have bought a real radio instead of a toy but
most new hams fall for this piece of junk.I wish I had thought about
selling those cheap pieces of junk I would be rich!!!

You are asking a lot of questions about the battery, but how did you get a
license? Do you know of any other ham radio operators in your area who can
help you try it out? Maybe the ones who helped you take your test to get
    the license…

You wife would need a ham license in order to operate the radio… They are
NOT transferable. Each operator needs to have a license.
