Can you get mobile phones on that radio? Do you get good skip? What is the SWR on that radar twig? is you on D-Star?
The hands free is brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
Hi m8, just wondering if you have tried the diamond CR-8900 antenna for the 8900 rig ? it was made for the 8900 radio, its an £110 job though, just wondered if you had tried it before i splash the cash lol.
I have the 2 exact radio’s as yourself , i havn,t got a van yet though lol.
Hi, Yes, I have tried both the Diamond and the Maldol Quadbander antenna…both were ok but not brilliant. A lot of money for an aerial that trys to do cover too many bands. You will be better off using a triplexer/duplexer and having a 2/70 and either 6 or 10mtr antennas that work well. Thats only my opinion though:-) Pays Ya Money..Takes Ya Choice. Regards. Ian.
Loving the set up, very very nice! Can you tell me what make the duplexer is and where you purchased it. I’m wanting to use one on 2m/70cms with my Icom 2820
What make aerials are you using for the 2m band and the 70cms? You seem to know your stuff so any advice much appreciated.
Cheers matey 🙂
Hi, I use the 5/8 wave on 2 mtrs, this also tunes as a 1/4 wave on 6 Mtrs. For uhf I use a pmr 1/4 wave which works really well. The duplexer is nothing special. Bought from Coastal Communications in Clacton for £15.00. Cheers. Ian
hay there nice setup.
Yes, I like earwiggin’ on other folks conversations, my son owns a skipping rope which works really well in my garden, I swarred the twig in ok on radar but I,m burning too many candles for CB, and not on D Star but my wife has just paid $100.00 for a star in the Horse Head Nebula to be named G0YAP. Thanks for your comments.
Isnt the FT857 also a UHF/VHF radio as well? if so, then why do you have both yeasus? Very nice set up, im jelous…
Hi, Yes the FT857 has VHF and UHF but its only single band. I prefer to keep my UHF/VHF operations seperate. That way I came monitor the local stuff on the 8900 and then use the 857 to listen about the HF and CB channels. Thanks for looking. Ian.
hey you wouldnt happen to know the differences between the Ft8800 and the 8900?
..The 8800 is a dual bander, 144 and 433mhz, the 8900 is a quad bander, 144, 433, 50 and 28/29 mhz. Cheers. Ian.
thank you ian, i think im going to do some more research…but im sold on the two you have. Cheers.
