ZENITH AM Alarm Clock 1957 front
Flea Market (Radio Hamfest) AM Alarm Clock bought in NOT working condition. Tubes are in series and none of the tubes were glowing (internal tube heaters need to heat up to work and in these type of radios they are in a series like Christmas lights) If one is bad they all don’t "light". The tubes are a common type so I checked them all with my tube tester, replaced one bad one (a 6BE6 converter) turned it on and it worked but there is a hum. The main filter capacitor will be bypassed with a 22uF 400v capacitor. Taken with a Canon 20D mixed natural morning light filled in with a flash (that’s why I had to take it off of a bit of an angle: The flash reflection would have been a killer.

RF Isolator Balun MFJ-915 Choke For Ham & CB Radio HF Antennas
The MFJ-915 RF Isolator is a 1:1 Current Balun, designed to be placed in line with any 50-Ohm coax.
The RF Isolator is effective from 1.8 to 30 MHz. It was designed to improve the performance of all amateur stations, fixed or mobile.

After receiving emails from guys who are not into installing towers, I must say — YES that I do have 2 Gin Poles , I have been installing towers for yearssssss. I have the physical strength and a lot of learnt techniques for doing an installation this way …… ROHN 25G sections are very light for me to manage this way by myself ……… I have installed a 50ft and a 40ft tower with this method.. If you must try this , practice on the ground with a 10ft section to get used to the sections weight .

This week, Surfin’ can begin antenna maintenance now that the trees are out of the way.
The tree man finally showed up on Monday and cleared the area around my crank-up/down tower, so I can now lower it without the antenna hitting any branches on the way down.
The antenna is a log periodic and is the actual one Bart Jahnke, KB9NM, reviewed way back in the…

Attention Kit Builders: The ARRL Wants to Hear from You!
The ARRL wants to hear from kit builders about simple useful, educational and exciting kits. These kits should have a high probability for success and would serve as stepping stones for more advanced projects. We are looking all sorts of kits, but RF detector kits that work in the 380 MHz-2.5 GHz range are of special interest. The kits should also have a “Wow, I built this and it works!” factor…

2011 DCC – ‘INTRO’ to APRS (sort of)
I’ll be honest with you – this isn’t the ‘Introduction to APRS’ you’ve been looking for… the one where Bob Bruninga WB4APR, the mode’s inventor, explains in step-by-step detail just how to get started and use APRS. Such a guide doesn’t exist that I know of, and the ones out there that come close are quickly out of date. What this is… is another version of Bob’s APRS talk, with bits and pieces of what APRS is, how it started, and where it’s going (or where it can go if Bob can talk you into doing more than watching little car icons drive around on a map). You will learn a lot… just not what you were hoping to get (sorry!). This is one of three talks Bob gave (all variations on the same theme) at the 2011 ARRL/TAPR DCC in Baltimore. At the end of this video is an informal discussion between Bob and John Gorkos AB0OO about John’s development of the AVRS, the Automatic Voice Relay System, another new development in APRS. John details AVRS is the 2011 DCC Sunday Seminar Part 3. I apologize in advance for the video quality. It’s not terrible, but it’s going to be hard to read some of the text on the screens. I was using ARVN’s ‘old’ camera, a standard-definition camera set for wide-screen, recording in the one-hour, lower quality mode. All my high-def cameras (all three of them) were tied up in the main DCC presentation room.

Reconfigurable Processing in Low-Power Programmable DSP
Digital signal processors constitute an important aspect of signal processing in many high performance applications and end-user devices. Keeping the power dissipation as low as possible in a reconfigurable architecture that enables dynamic reconfiguration of hardware modules is quite a challenging task. This paper examines one approach towards low-power programmable DSPs that seeks to solve this problem by matching the model of computation of a given task with a well defined architectural granularity without adverse consequences on performance.
