Finally bought a decent power supply (from a Circuit City store that was closing) and finished this setup in the laundry/closet/back-entrance room. The three ham radios were previously running, not very well, off an old computer power supply. The radio on the wall is a Radio Shack FRS/GMRS desktop I found on clearance one time. The two handhelds on the windowsill are scanners. My primary and best scanner is not shown, since it is connected to the desktop in the living room for offsite access over the interwebs.

Measuring Antenna Return Loss (SWR) with HP 141T Spectrum Analyzer and 8721A Directional Bridge
This video shows the use on a 1970’s era HP Spectrum Analyzer, capable of measurements to 110 MHz, to measure Return Loss of an antenna. The 141T Spectrum Analyzer system has the 8552B IF and 8553B RF Sections (plug-in’s), and is connected through a special cable assembly, HP p/n 08443-60009 (see www.glkinst.com to an HP 8443A Tracking Generator (early nixie tube version) The 8443A allows the operator to determine the frequency of any position along the trace via a marker and also provides the incident RF signal to the DUT (antenna in this case) through the 8721A Bridge. This was state of the art for that era and how network analysis was done using this 141T Spectrum Analyzer. These particular units were all built at HP in Santa Rosa, California. The 8721A Bridge is used to seperate the reflected signal from the incident signal and thus measurement of the reflected signal’s amplitude changes over a frequency sweep. See HP Application Note 150-3, available at the HP Memory Project Website, at www.hpmemory.org for more information. Note: the 8721A bridge labels appear on both sides but differently. The connection label LOAD is SOURCE on the opposite side, INCIDENT is actually REFLECTED oppositely, and SOURCE is LOAD on the opposite side. I had it setup to measure REFLECTED but that side is facing the table! Darn! Oh well!) The SA is set to 300 Mhz bandwidth, .5 MHz scan width per division, input attenuation at 20 dB, and a scan or sweep time per division of 5 milliseconds …

This unit, (if not already), is likely to come down, as the county extends a major road, right next to the Bunker.
Inside this bunker, appears to have once been an Air Force radio repair shop. The ultimate reason for being buried, could have been for shield out spurious RF emission, (Radio Noise) for a better instrument calibration environment.
This would make a great lowband Ham Shack!! 😉

HAARP & CATASTROPHICALLY CONSEQUENCES ON EARTH? PART 1/3 BY PROFESSOR M. REZA SALAMI
MUSIC BY: MAJID ENTEZAMI, PERSIAN MUSICIAN CREDITS AND REFERENCES: Jesse Ventura, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, The Coltons Point Times – published by Ivy Hollow Media, Kevin Hayden-Truth Is Treason.net, Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, en.wikipedia.org It is the HAARP system a super-powerful radio wave-beaming technology that lifts areas of the ionosphere by focusing a beam and heating those areas. Electromagnetic waves then bounce back onto earth and penetrate everything — living and dead. It’s uses range from those claimed to be academic to far more dangerous secret military purposes including weather control that can cause earthquakes to electro-magnetic interference to shut down electrical grids, and it can alter the earth’s atmosphere in a far more destructive way than anything carbon based. It is also the HAARP system that could cause the electrical interference that could disrupt the computer systems that operate cars (Toyota) and have many other devastating effects.

miniVNA Demo Part 1 (Ham Radio)
This video shows my antenna set up for the 80 and 20 metre bands and the miniVNA (Vector Network Analyzer) antenna analyzer in operation. It’s not a detailed explanation of the miniVNA but hopefully it gives you an insight as to how it functions. My 80metre inverted V comprises of two 59 foot 6 inch lengths of wire fed with a air-cored balun and the 20 Metre inverted V comprises of two lengths of wire each approximately 17 foot long fed by an ugly balun. Hopefully you’ll forgive me for playing about with the Photoshop software. This is part one of two videos here’s the link to part two (youtu.be Kind Regards … Andy gw0jxm

AN/FPS-118 Over-The-Horizon-Backscatter (OTH-B) Radar
The USAF’s Rome Laboratory had the first US success with their AN/FPS-118 OTH-B. A prototype with a 1 MW transmitter and a separate receiver was installed in Maine, offering coverage over a 60 degree arc between 900 to 3300 km. A permanant transmitting facility was then built in Moscow, Maine, a receiving facility in nearby Columbia Falls, and an operational center between them in Bangor. The coverage could be extended with additional receivers, providing for complete coverage over a 180 degree arc (each 60 degree portion known as a “sector”). GE Aerospace was awarded the development contract, expanding the existing east coast system with two additional sectors, while building another three-sector system on the west coast, a two-sector system in Alaska, and a one-sector system facing south. In 1992 the Air Force contracted to extend the coverage 15 degrees clockwise on the southern of the three east coast sectors to be able to cover the southeast US border. Additionally, the range was extended to 3000 miles, crossing the equator. This was operated 40 hours a week at random times. Radar data was fed to the US Customs/Coast Guard C3I Center, Miami; Joint Task Force 4 Operations Center, Key West; US Southern Command Operations Center, Key West; and US Southern Command Operations Center, Panama. With the end of the cold war, the influence of the two senators from Maine was not enough to save the operation and the Alaska and southern-facing sites were canceled, the two so-far …

Using Ham Radio Deluxe with the Yaesu FT-736R
There are new developments on this project. I am making the software available and the hardware version is finished and available. Go to home.comcast.net for more details The FT-736R is a great old radio, but it does not fit the Ham Radio Deluxe model for interfacing. This video shows the use of emulating software that makes HRD believe it is controlling an FT-847. The information in the emulator registers is used in turn to send data to to the FT-736. My intent is to eventually implement the emulator in a small microcontroller that goes in line between between the 736 and the serial port controlled by HRD. 73 DE KA6BFB
