    Satellites are full duplex, you want to hear what is coming back in real time to know if you are making it or not.

    I’ve never had any problems not having duplex. My Yaesu isn’t duplex.  I just put in a split freq. and it uplinks on VHF and downlinks on UHF. In most cases, if I can hear them, they can hear me.
