Some fellow HAM’s I talk with are fans of “ESSB” or “AM Quality Audio” on SSB. When the bands are quiet later at night on 75 meters we run anywhere from about 3.0khz to 6khz of TX bandwidth. All processing gear and studio microphones help with making the audio sound more “responsive” and having “presence”. Some of the HAM’s sound so good you would think they were transmitting from commercial AM Talk Radio station.
You sir are probably the only ham with a sence of humor great video i have a friend who dose the big am thing his name is rock in Mn he has amazing equiptment also fun to watch him operate but what do i know i still use the cb radio for know.
Brother, 50% of the time I hear more courteous operators while listening on channel 38 LSB than I do on 20 meters these days. The immature pissing contests you hear up and down the bands on a daily basis is enough to turn any sane person away from the hobby . Both hobbies are about having fun and anyone who takes amateur radio too seriously in this day and age needs their head examined. -73
Well, to be honest switching power supplies in general aren’t the greatest for amateur radio use as they produce quite a bit of unwanted hash and spurious harmonics on the HF bands. They also tend to have a much greater ripple than large transformer power supplies. However, I’ve yet to have a single issue with that Alinco 32 amp power supply and I’ve had it now for about 8 years.
Hey Paul, good to see someone from the area near my old “stomping” grounds on the edge of Brampton near Torbram Road and Steeles Avenue. I moved up here to Wasaga Beach from Bramalea about 2 years ago now. Where I am now it’s quite difficult to hit many of the repeaters that I used to use quite a bit. Apparently, according to Google Earth, there’s a large amount of high terrain blocking my signal path to the south. I picked up a new tower, a 80 foot free standing crank up, maybe it will help…
What’s also interesting up here is that younger “farm kids”, 16-20 year olds on the local CB CH 38 sideband, are interested in the hobby. I’ve already bugged 2 of them to the point that they passed their amateur examinations with honors. I envy both of them as they live on enough land to throw up a full wave 160 meter loop along with multiple receive directional beverage antenna’s. Lucky buggers!
Some retarded booger flagged your comment as “spam”. I would like to take the time to say, kind sir, that your comment was very moving and emotional for me. The word “god damn” is highly important as it emphasizes just how incredibly crucial that disco ball is in my amateur radio operating procedures on a day to day basis.
Yeah, I only posted it that way because of how YOU emphasized it, which I thought was quite funny but you know how some people are. One word and their little world falls apart 🙂

Hello from Etobicoke, Ontario and thanks for the neat tour of your shack.
I am always looking for ideas from other radio ops for my own shack improvements.

I don’t speak Spanish sir and the Google babble-fish translation is quite offensive.
