It should be noted that the tower is so balanced that initially I have to assist it by pulling at the bottom of it to start in going over. Additionally, there is so little weight against the cables that I have to be sure to keep the cable tracking in the pulleys until there is sufficient weight to keep them in the tracks. When I raise it the wench assumes greater torque at a point where the ratcheting mechanism finally begins to engage so that I have to adjust the ratchet trigger to the proper setting. The whole process is weightless and easy to do for the user.

    Have you tried using a cordless drill and a socket to operate the crank? That’s how WR897 used to operate his 3-section crank-up tower.

    Have you posted plans for your tilt-o-tower? I’d be tempted to build one for Field Day.

    On several forums when I first built it I posted some details in threads called “Tip Over Wooden Tower”. There has been repairs, and modifications since then, but I’d be willing to do so. Should I get it done I’ll post a link.
