This is the testing of the dipole antenna that was created in www.youtube.com The antenna has a confirmed signal at 3.28 miles and an swr of maybe 1.1 on channel one, 1.2 on channel 20, and 1.4 on channel 40.

    – Thanks! I just mounted it vertical on a wooden light pole in my backyard. It’s about 3′ off the ground, and 20′ in the air now!

Just a few questions. What channel did you use? What antenna was on the other side of the transmission? and How long was each leg on the dipole antenna?

    – It’s 1940’s technology; it’s all junk to me. Why would I spend more on something a $10 toy from China could replace? Your willingness and need to make such a comment implies you have something better. Would you like to share it with the class?

#3: Midland special: Getcha about 2 miles down the road minus how much your losing being the wrong way
#4: Could be the channel? WTF so Ch 18 is fine but #17 isn’t LOL

Have fun talking across the street.

#1 – Horizontal will receive a signal broadcast with a horizontal antenna better than being vertical. This is fact.
#2 – Each channel transmits at a different frequency. Every different frequency has a different wavelength. While your antenna will work on multiple channels, it can only be tuned for maximum efficiency for one channel, this being an SWR of 1.0, while each channel above and below the tuned channel will raise your SWR.
#3 – Have fun talking on a CB, I use cell phones.

#1: OK show me where your buddy was using a horizontal antenna in his mobile LOL – If your antenna and the persons antenna your talking too antenna is horizontal it will work half ass but AM should be VERTICAL and SSB is HORIZONTAL.

#2: I’m a general class Ham Radio Operator, I’m not stupid about frequenices, wavelengths and all that. Most of my antennas I make myself and talk all around the world on them.

#3: I don’t talk on CB, can’t stand the incompetent idiots!

I have my amateur license now, but had lots of fun with CB first. Dont be discouraged by negative comments. Keep experimenting and enjoy your hobby.
