I’m hoping to do this too. I’m in a 3rd floor apartment. I have a nice gutter right out side my window. I have the Yaesu Ft890 with built in tuner. Do you know if I can use electrical ground, or should I make a counterpoise?
Thanks for taking a look. I wouldn’t use the electrical ground (I’m assuming you are talking about the round prong at the wall socket – potential safety issues, splatter from the hot sides, etc.) I’ve made up counterpoises with balled up wire as well as more neatly organized runs. If you’re in an apartment I would probably run the counterpoise along a wall seam or ceiling joint. Play with it and see what happens!
I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing with the exception of just for reception on communication rigs, (shortwave)…I’ve got a 66′ straight gutter run and it’s too appealing not to try…
Great video and great channel. Just the kind of videos I love watching on a cold winter night when getting up on the roof is just a memory. Helps me plan for projects I want to do when spring comes. Subscribed, and looking forward to your future videos. Good job!
Thanks for the video. I’ll be curious to hear if you get a contact.
Definitely will give it a try soon.

Palosrob – I enjoy these odd projects and sharing them. Thank you for taking a look and for your comments.
