Jim, After watching this video, I fired up the sig. gen., set it up for
unmodulated 460Kc, coiled a loop around the second I.F. can, then dialed
around the police band in search of some SSB action. I was able to catch
the last minute or so of a conversation…just enough time to fiddle around
with the sig. gen. until I could clearly hear the conversation. They were
the only Hams I could tune in this morning. Later on I’ll do it again and
make a video. Thanks, my friend. Regards, John

@wa4aos Great story Genn, Over 45 years been enjoying doing something with
radios. I learned more about them when I started building heathkits radios.
Oh you have a nice shack by the way on QRZ.com… 73’s Jim

He tuned around and found the same Donald duck noise and had a large
audience present and convinced they were all listening to the astronauts.
It took only a few minutes to figure which coil was needed for injection
and then the conversations were understandable. The QSO’s were interesting
but discussion of radios, antennas and regular Ham stuff was not what
everyone was hoping for. He never brought the SW radio back but he and I
became friends and soon had our Novice licenses. We both won!

@joernone John you should be able to inject the signal and just tune the
main (VFO) dial on the radio. It not the best method but works Jim

Back in the 60’s when I was in Junior High, a fellow class mate brought a
SW receiver to school convinced he was listening to astronauts from the
Gemini program,. He manage to get the most of the school, students and
staff convinced he had the real thing. WHen I told him and others he was
listening to Ham op’s I was scoffed at. I asked him to bring his radio back
the next day and I would prove him to be wrong; he agreed. Next day, he had
his radio and I had a grid dip meter for injection.
