I just bought one of these after watching this video. A 170$ expense. Unfortunately i am only able to receive the weather and an airport. I am unable to hear The Police and other emergency officials . I may hold on to this because i am a railfan however there are no trains around me so right now it is an expensive paperweight.

@geedunk13 It’s people like you that make it hard for us honest scanner listeners. A lot of agenices are switching to encrypted communications because of attitudes like yours.

Mobile phones are publicly aired frequencies where court warrants aren’t required for eavesdropping. The railroads being tapped by anyone is a good example. Is their a guide that lists local mobile phone frequencies. What fun it would be to listen to the private conversations of friends, family, and neighbors legally!

The original antenna is pretty good… but its designed for the 450 Mhz range so its performance is limited at 160-161 Mhz… I often strategically position myself in areas that are in between or closer to transmission points to improve reception.

@vonzigle Exactly, as well as being powerful enough to hide his power from the other glasses clad scanner of lesser power. makes sense to me, great Movie!!!!!!!!

This movie is ripe for a remake (but only if done well). I am not knocking the original….it’s an all time classic! I’d just like to see it remade, preferably with some decent/well known actors/nice budget.

@justcallmemrmetal Michael Ironside was pretending to be just a regular person. Louis Del Grande (the guy in glasses) was supposed to be doing the scanning, but ended up having his brains blown out by a much more powerful scanner.

@gjc82071 What’s wrong with the actors in the original? Michael Ironside was in many movies since this one. Remember Starship Troopers? “Do you wanna live forever?”

@phillydisco What? Oh! I get it……..There is NOTHING wrong with the original/actors. Ironside was awesome! I only mean that if they did a remake, IMO they would need good/name actors in the remake too. I did not imply that the original actors sucked or anything. They were perfect. I really like Patric Patrick McGoohan (the doctor). He played Edward the Long Shanks in “Braveheart” & also the MI6 spy in “Ice Station Zerba” (awesome film!!!)

@phillydisco My bad! McGoohan also played the title character in the 60s TV show The Prisoner. If they remake this thing today, it’ll have Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez as Scanners, running from some other teeny bopper scanners.

Funny how things scare you when you’re a kid, not so much now when you’re an adult. This was one of those films, an head explosion in the 80’s was huge special events!
