WOW that’s quite a tower! I was just out at an oilfield service company and they were demonstrating some new products…one was a 50 foot tower on a trailer like this but unguyed. It is for use at remote drilling locations to get internet access and uses a small antenna in the 5ghz band.
Yep it is, I happened to rider along when the now owner first looked at it. It still amazes me. He is going to use it as his main tower at his place and then once a year for field day.
By any chance do you know what protocol their using on 5ghz band, GSM or CDMA or another one? I am using CDMA.
Wow that is quite a tower, is that strictly for ham users or can that kind of setup work for AM/FM radio and low power VHF/UHF analog television? How much would a tower, antenna and rotor setup like that run in general? I can just imagine how far a signal can travel with one of those.
Hey Gary,
You could configure the tower for many different bands by what you stack on top of the tower. Commercial AM would be a problem because the AM tower is hot and this tower is supported by the ground. But for anything you can stack on top will work great! Thanks.
The Doc. is the guy that owns it. He got a very good deal on it. I’ll try and remember to get his call to you. It is an amazing thing to watch and use. They did real good this year.
I am getting ready to homebrew a portable tower (not near this fancy or tall, but very inexpensive) from an old boat trailer…gonna be about 40-50′ and will handle a 3-4 element tribander nicely, with a nice winch on it…all for about $500 …73, N9WX
This is the first one I have seen too. Thanks.
Tesla would be proud.
YEP! Thanks.

There was some wire strung in trees also, but the most important thing is to have fun. Thanks.

Winter would be interesting too. I also thought that in the Fall would be good.

very cool 🙂 Did some1 check the balance on the upper part b4 mounting it to the rotor?
Yep, that have all done this before.

Really impressive shortwave antenna tower!! I do miss North Carolina and Duke. Maybe I missed it, but how tall was that tower?
Ill check. They did not extend the tower fully.
100 feet is maximum height.
awesome, thanks!
Where did you get one of them? one is on ebay for $20,000, Is that what you payed for it?
