The wouxuns and baofengs will cover VHF/UHF and that would give most people
MURS, FRS, GMRS, 2M & 7CM which in an shtf MOST people will be looking for
local help, not help from across the country. It would at least get them in
touch with other “preppers” an certainly at least one would be on HF to get
messages long distances. We are trying to put us all on a level playing
field in case people need help in an SHTF
I’m not surprised. I’ve never had much luck with mass market HTs in any
band. BTW, I sent you a PM. Did you get it?
I was helping! Get the ARRL ham radio technician study guide $29.95 from
the ARRL it covers rules, basic communications, and antenna basics. All of
which is needed to properly hook up any type of radio not just a ham radio
Do you ever give a class
You hit the nail right on the head with this one. KD0QVO
I’ve run Ham for 3yrs now without a licence, Been lucky I guess,,
sorry abt that dave…check ur vid u said the american radio
network…thats y i thought u meant them…sorry for any misinfo…my
sincere appologies…
AWESOME Video!!! I agree!!!
What books do you suggest?
I have been in an SHTF with a CB, it’s USELESS trust me. There are NO quiet
days. When the cell system is down, everyone and their brother is on the CB
and you CANNOT get out and talk to anyone local. You cant hear anything,
its like a constant train wreck. The idea behind the MURS is, not every
truck driver and hunter in the US will have that and it would offer a
cleaner form of communications. I would think you would be in favor of “the
road less traveled”.
I would almost agree BUT you dont have to worry as much on 151 Mhz as you
do in the CB band of someone in Tx stomping someone in Ms whether they are
running 2 watts or 2000 watts in Tx. I uses to get my local CB traffic
completely crushed by some chick in Mexico almost every day. VHF is cleaner
and has better outdoor range than UHF. The MURS is supose to be a “hailing”
freq. Each area should develop a local freq in FRS, GMRS Etc

how about ShortWave radio? I made one from junk and salvaged parts! it
works v. well at nite! I can get radio Cuba, Nashville,TN, and sometimes,
European radio news!!!
I made a v. small inductor coil w/ wire(from a power adapter plug), wound
95 turns on a small ink pen tube, and connected it to a homemade antenna,
var. capacitor,+47K resistor+disk capacitor+germanium diode, w/ the ground
connector from the wall socket (for ground connection), and connected it to
an amp.
doesn’t need a battery (except for the amp). check online for crystal
radio, homemade SW radio, or youtube for the same, and just experiment-
you’ll be surprised at what you can make and find!! and to use your radio,
do it @ nite, and you may find more stations broadcasting out. also, the
higher your antenna, the better signal strength, better signal sound, more
signals!
(as for the wire coil, you can use an ink pen tube, chopstick, toothpick(s),
or even popcicle sticks(make extra holes at both ends to secure the
wires, keep it from unraveling, and making a mess!!)
another idea is to read online about SW,LW,CB, and ham radio frequencies,
and take notes on them- this info may be v. useful one day!
everyone, stay safe, be informed, and keep learning! won’t hurt if you do!
cheers!

Also another point. SHTF who is going to care about being legal?!
For some reason google will not allow me to share my thoughts on this and
CB use. 25.735 – 26.735 low power long range as well as local.
good vid . thank you for telling it like it is .. 73’s from kc2sif

Output: 462.625 MHz Tone: 026 DPL
Input: 467.625 MHz Tone: 026 DPL
GMRS is in 462.550 thru 462.725.
I am glad you told those folks about a GMRS license,so many of these people
are telling others the FCC will not bother you.I showed 2 cases where fines
ranged from $10-30,000 and they still to ignorant to believe it!!!
I got my tech and it was not to hard.
Just takes some time going thew the information well worth learning as you
have said on here. I agree you need to know what swr is and prorogation
otherwise you burn up your equipment fast from miss match feed lines and
the reflective power will fry your equipment.
the difference is 5-50 miles to thousands of miles with passes on the sat’s
you can talk on sat’s with a tech.
2/440/6/10 with some windows if you learn cw and data psk31
Dude there’s a dead raccoon on yer head!
When the SHTF any communications that requires the internet or a repeater
will become useless. You will only be able to use a Simplex system such as
Ham Radio,VHF,UHF,or CB radio DIRECT.Having a backup power system will be
even more important or there will be no power for any of the radios or for
recharging the batteries for the HT’s or for use of mobile or base radios.I
have Ham Radio,CB radio,FRS,GMRS,MURS,& even Marine frequencies but without
power they are all useless.Get with your local Ham Radio,CB radio,& other
bands users in your local area & setup a list of frequencies that you will
know to meet on when the SHTF. Chances are your local Government agencies
will also be VERY limited in their communications abilities as well after a
few days when their backup power sources run out.Be prepared because you
phones & internet service will NOT be your friend because all of those
systems will go down first.Get a generator & plenty of backup batteries for
the HT’s & a couple of deep cycle marine or other battery source & keep
them charged.
Hello CB butt heads turned M.U.R.S around eastern WV in
a real mess until FCC came around. Now it’s clean but no
ones using it anymore .
Nice to hear a licenced Amateur telling it like it is. Good on ya. 73.
Well spoken. 73’s DE WB0PTD
