Just for fun. The R71A with the 100 foot outdoor wire, and the Satellite 750 using the built-in telescopic antenna.

Wow! What a set up you have! Quite impressive. Thanks for the video. I just
ordered the 750 and can’t wait for it’s arrival!

Tom, the Grundig 750 is an excellent receiver for its price. Packed with
features that can be found in more elite receivers. You won’t be
disappointed if you ever get one. Thanks to everyone for your comments!

I got a ICOM R-71 E a special designed with Phase Looked am tuner. No
disturbition when the signal is fading. I bougth it in the early 80-ties,
clear brigth sound, sounds like an FM station.

What a good signal choice for this interesting comparison. No question the
Icom has a more stable sound. However makes me want to hear the Grundig
with that 100 ft antenna. Wonder how close they would sound then. No
question that the Icom should perform better considering the much higher
price. But the 750 can be easily transported just about anywhere. Really
like my 750. Hopefully they will give the 750 a full upgrade with some
similar new features we see on the Tecsun 880. The 750 could use more band
    widths.

Since you mentioned you were using the built in telescopic antenna of the
Grundig Satellit 750, I noticed to the left of the Grundig there is what
looks like another aerial antenna leaning directly up against the Grundig
radio! Also notice several other tall metal objects such as what looks
like a microphone stand immediately nearby the telescopic antenna. If you
ask me, all that stuff nearby the Grundig is just asking for radio
    interference!

However based on your video, I do not think I’ll be displeased with the
Grundig Satellit 750 performance! (Granted, sounds like a nearby station.)

I have an outdoor simple long wire antenna here at home, and am quite keen
as to how much more improved the signal gets compared to using a built in
antenna! It would be nice to hear a comparison of short and long distant
shortwave broadcasts for comparison, each using the same antenna for
providing a control for the experiment or benchmark.

Maybe Roger, next time you make a (first) video on YouTube to share, you
can do that comparison of your 750 and another receiver using their
telescoping whips tuned to a weak station. Make sure you don’t have a bowl
of spaghetti near the receivers, I hear it also causes interference!

darn good receivers! Thank you for comparing approx $270 portable battery
operated grundig 750 to ham to approx $700 Icom ham radio receiver. Me:
after much gnashing of teeth, heavily leaning towards after Christmas 2014
purchasing Comm radio cr1a as it is battery operated

What you see there Roger is an amateur radio Satellit antenna that is
mounted on a tripod, and not near or touching the antenna of the 750 in
anyway. And I highly doubt the microphone stand has any effect on the
preformance of the receiver either. This comparison was not meant to see
which receiver does a better job receiving “The Voice Of Vietnam”, because
naturally the Icom will do a better job with the outdoor antenna. And I do
believe if I installed a whip antenna in the Icom, it still would leave the
750 in the dust. This comparison was to show how well the 750 receives with
its whip antenna, listening to the same station as the icom was, connect to
the outdoor antenna. Nothing more, nothing less.
