Your right! the manual that comes with the Baofeng is useless. How do you
save rptr freq. with their offsets, sft-d and t-ctcs intact ? I know how to
save freq. to a channel, but the offsets wont save.
I have an answer for you on this, but too lengthy for here.. hit me up on
email: m21networks @ gmail
6m band is from 50-54Mhz. Baofeng UV-5RC: 65-108MHz(FM Receive only);
136-174MHZ and 400-520MHZ (TX/RX). So no go on 6m on this radio as far as I
know.
Thanks for the link.
there should be plenty of instructions online – just do a search., there’s
also an antenna book put out by arrl that might help,
Good luck with your exam. Definitely check back in when you give the Yaesu
a wilderness outing. I’ve heard nothing but good things about them – and
will probably eventually upgrade to one. I haven’t had a chance to do a
comprehensive test with the slim jim for distance, but other vids I’ve seen
have reached repeaters >20 miles. The Baofeng cannot be beat price wise
(assuming you get a good shipping deal) for an excellent backup unit.
Nice setup for the ladder-line mobile antenna. I just ordered one! I was
shopping around for a large whip antenna but the latter line is more
convenient to carry around. Thanks, great video..
Question, Can you give me the exact parts needed and lengths for the ladder
line and adapter line you are using. I went to the web site you indicated
in your video. A little vague. Also does that slim jim setup work for both
2m and 440 or just 2 Meter? Please advise. email – naL2us2@yahoo.com Thank
you so much.
KD8SH here, thank you for your videos, they were a great resource for
preparing for exam. Already thinking of an antenna on the house.
I have done a search online and your video was the closest thing I could
find. If you can point me in the right direction with those instructions or
online links I would be ever so grateful. Thank you
nice informative video there, have you tested your baofeng for range on the
larger (5 ft) antenna? im thinking you can get upto like 5 miles easily if
you put that on your roof.
THANK YOU!
Definitely give it a whirl. Lots of things to get involved with, and it’s a
great prep.
The Arrow antenna should work for you. You may even be able to reach some
of them with just the rubber ducky that comes with the radio, just depends
what is between you and them. Definitely test it out when you get your
radio.
Thanks for your response. I am definitely interested in DIY as I have been
an engineer for over 30 years now. I found the coax so I just need to
secure the 6 feet of 450 Ladder line, a Balun, and the two traps needed.
Any help in locating these parts by you or anyone else seeing this post
would be very much appreciated. God Bless
The ladder line antenna is very light weight. Good choice for emergency
use.
Thank you for your very rapid response to my last question. Finally, do you
have the design and components needed to construct the two traps needed for
this design as well? Please advise and thank you again.
Download Chirp. It makes it much easier to program and you can download
repeater information automatically. For manual programming, check out this
video: /watch?v=15DmHvdLq68
I have some HF ones coming soon.
Try Gigaparts, Ham Radio Outlet, Radio Shack, Ham City etc. There are lots
of online shops that can help you out – and Radio Shack is in most locales
in US. Good luck, have fun making your antenna!
Dunno the exact parts – I’m sure there is a recipe online somewhere. N9TAX
sells those slim jim antennas online at EBAY. Just do a search there. From
what I understand his are actually priced pretty competitively compared to
buying separate parts and building it yourself. Though there is definitely
value to DIY. The nice thing about his are that you can order any connector
you desire, and they are very well built. They work for 2m and 70 cm – he
also has other configurations available as well.
From what I’ve read it’s use what you have. If you have 450 use it, if you
have 300 use it, if you have 600 use it.
I have no problem with the baofeng reaching a local repeater ~15 miles away
with the antenna simply mounted on the painters pole, and extended above
the roof line. I have heard people with good elevation and line of sight
hitting repeaters 30-50 miles away with this antenna. It’s a great deal.
Ok, purchased the Baofeng UV-5RC., Passed for my Tech. license, Waiting for
call sign. Looking at radio and Frequency bands. How do you enter 6m band
frqs. on this thing
Thanks for the Vids! From an OT stand point, (47 yrs plus), U seem to enjoy
the Hobby and DIY! Beautiful Country, and a Great Setup. You may wish to
try a new Baofeng, the GT-3, I recently purchased 2 units and am surprised
at the upgrades inside! We have a few smaller mountains here in GA., great
for weekend trips for the DX. Take Care, 73, W4–, (sorry, but there is a
problem with people Bootlegging Calls around here),. 10 Meters is open and
calling, Thank’s Again for the link to the ladder line, I’ve built my own
for yrs, I’ll order one for my rucksack… Redd…
