I have thought about getting into ham radios. sounds pretty expensive for my small budget. Maybe there is a cheaper model for me. like some old used ebay radio.
if portablilty wasn’t so important to me I would have bought an older Kenwood model… Could have spent about 300 ish for the transceiver and 100 for the power supply and another 100 for the tuner (without the tuner that wire antenna over my roof would not work well)…
could probably do it for half what I did no problem… but like I said I really wanted to be able to bring things down to the cabin… convenience has a price…
oh and if you are interested join your local club. lots of people who have been involved in hobby for years might have old radios gathering dust… And if you are looking for more local Comms UHF/VHF radios are much cheaper… I have a handheld yeasu ft-60 and that was 150 new… a Mobil model with around 50 watts used would be be around the same price… new around 300… depends on what you want to do with the hobby…
that sounds like a good idea to join a club so I can learn more about them before I buy. and Im sure someone wants to get rid of something.
How do you like your power supply. Do you recommend it?
not much to saw about it… it works 🙂 voltage stays pretty constant at 13.8 volts… drops to 13.7 when transmitting at 100 watts… it’d quite and doesn’t seem to run hot…
I’d buy another… for the price your hard pressed to find another 35 amp power supply…
