I like your views and topics. Subbed and would appreciate if you did the same. Posted a vid of my go box for you to look at as well. Thanks.
Yaesu, COUNTYCOMM, Marathon…it’s like watching my self 15 years senior!
I second the online tests. That’s what I did. I just took practice tests over and over. You can also find the question pool with the answers. The ARRL has a link to it on their website. If you google “ham radio license question pool”, look at the first link.
I enjoyed watching your video,I’m in the Portland,Oregon area and I been wanting to get my Ham licence for a long time but I dont know where to start.
David, I just picked up the VX-8DR. What antenna would you recommend?
Hey Dave, what do you think about dropping the bag into a large steel ammo can to resist EMP’s and give the kit extra protection in the event of a tense situation?
Great idea. I use a large surplus metal medical box and a big (? 120mm) ammo can for EMP protection.
First video I watched that you produced. Great stuff….thanks, Greg
I’m a new ham. I’m putting together a system like this for my FT-60R. and my old Pro 70 Thanks for posting this. 73’s KK4MSE.
Hi Dave
Can you tell me what kind of the antenna on your radio?
Look like Diamond but do not know the mode #
Any antenna you recommend? Please
Thank you
so I picked up the EOD back, I liked your setup and I’d been wanting to get the EOD bag, but haven’t had a use until you got me interested in get a HAM license and getting involved with my local CERT in Spokane (still studying though). I was curious how that bag is holding up for you? I love countycomm, but mine showed up one of the PALS straps lost it’s “snap” connector. I sent Mike an email this evening… but I was curious going forward if yours is holding well?
My bag is holding up great . . . I use it quite heavily and I have had no problems. Mike and the CountyComm crew are stand up guys and will do the right thing for you. I have placed many orders with CountyComm without any problems. I am a huge CountyComm fan. I will bet you just have a defective bag that they will replace. 73!
Really nice video…both information and the production!
Great video….

2 suggestions: Alligator clip: 12v lighter adapter from auto parts store. Slim Jim from N9TAX at 2wayelectronix.
And a flashlight
Good video but I would add a coach’s whistle just in case the batteries went dead, a LED flashlight to see in the dark, a pocket knife, and a box of waterproof matches.
Not a Bad Set up..
I Prefer Icom (Yaesu is good as well though)..
Regarding the batteries…
I keep far more then that on hand…3 extra batteries.. Plus a Rechargable 6000 mah portable re chargeable via AC/DC…
I hope your scanner is a Digital 25 unit..
I Really like the tubes you use to hold the many extra High Gain aftermarket HT antennas..
In recent Hurricane Sandy..with power/gas stations out for 10-18 days.. My HT’s had plenty of left over power (including to use for my cel phone )
Excellent video… detailed info, really nicely layed out radio go bag. Thank you for making this video.
Awesome video where did you get the green holder for your write in the rain tablet
What’s the antenna you are using? I have a VX-7R and the antenna is rather lackluster,
Brigade Quartermaster
Awesome thank you I’m also in cert I found your video to be very help full I have copied most of it, are cert group is using the Beofeng UV-5R+ (the price is right and they seem to work ok) I’m a new ham and I appreciate you taking the time to make this video as well as responding to me thank you very much 73
Thank you for your community service with CERT. The Beofeng UV-5R+ is a 2 m / 70 cm DTMF CTCSS DCS capable radio that would serve well as both a primary and back-up radio for any ham working in CERT or emergency radio service. They are full featured radios with a great price point. I have yet to use one but hope to in the future. The only complaint I have heard is they can be hard to program and the manual is poorly written. 73!
Awesome video
