Wi-Fi – My Dead Zones Finally Solved With This Netgear N300 EX2700 WiFi Extender

Wi-Fi - My Dead Zones Finally Solved With This Netgear N300 EX2700 WiFi

We just got one of these $35 Netgear N300 EX2700 WiFi Extender yesterday for a lot of dead spots trying to connect to our wireless router with multiple iPhones and iPads.

I am blown away by how well this Netgear N300 EX2700 WiFi Extender works and completely solves our problem in our 4,500 plus sq ft, three story home. I rarely give a complete raving recommendation but this gizmo deserves it.

We got just one of these even with our FIOS router in the far corner of our basement. This Netgear N300 EX2700 WiFi Extender is plugged into an outlet on the top floor in my office.

I am amazed at the range and the connection speed of this wifi extender.

I’ve used Wi-Fi extenders before and returned them all since I found all of them a hassle to use or they just didn’t work well. This Netgear N300 EX2700 WiFi Extender had a 5 minute setup and now we have no ZERO dead spots anywhere in the house AND our entire backyard and front yard – even for no buffering video streaming.

This shouldn’t work this well – but, for us, it does – and I highly recommend this to anyone who has wi-fi dead zones for smart phones, tablets and notebook computers.

I got this from Amazon so I could return it if it didn’t work. You might try the same thing to see if it can help solve your own problem. It’s easy to return if it doesn’t work.

Let me know if you try the Netgear N300 EX2700 WiFi Extender and your results.

73,

Robert

PS: Even though this defaults to inheriting the password from the main router for the extender itself – be sure that you go in and change the admin login for the extender from the default password!

Hamfest - 65th Annual Berryville Virginia Hamfest - August 2 2015

Hamfest – 65th Annual Berryville Virginia Hamfest  – August 2 2015

We’ve been to four or five hamfests since we moved to the Washington DC area about 14 months ago and the Berryville Virginia Hamfest held this past weekend on August 2, 2015 was the most enjoyable so far!

It was a beautiful day kept cool by all the shade trees with an amazing number of folks in the tailgating section. Here some photos and a couple of videos you might enjoy.

The Shenandoah Valley Amateur Radio Club, which hosted the event, did a great job!

DIY Automatic Tune Magnetic Loop Antenna By GM4WZG
DIY Automatic Tune Magnetic Loop Antenna By GM4WZG

DIY Automatic Tune Magnetic Loop Antenna By GM4WZG

The Small Do It Yourself Automatic Tune Magnetic Loop Antenna that he made is only 1 meter in diameter yet it has more or less the performance of a full size dipole – and has an amazing control box.

Magnetic Loops are easy in concept but like many things, you can either make a super-deluxe version with automatic controllers or just keep it simple.

The version presented here is portable, and has a fully automatic tuning system that links to the CAT port of an FT-817.

A single press of a button initiates a tuning sequence and that’s all that is needed to get this antenna on frequency.

For an antenna that is one meter across, standing 1.5 meters above ground this is a formidable result. You’re going to be 2 s-points down on a doublet/dipole on 40m but if you’re operating from a hotel balcony, portable in the countryside or just at home where normal antennas are not allowed, it is not just a compromise antenna, it is a real antenna.

Simi Settlers Certificate of Recognition

Casey Halverson has launched a new piece of Arduino compatible hardware he has designed and built called the Arduino HamShield. That is capable of enabling your Arduino project to communicate with people and things using amateur radio bands.

Arduino HamShield

Coverage from the Arduino HamShield is across 136-170MHz, 200-260MHz, 400-520MHz and can be used to create the wealth of new projects including emergency communication devices, beacons, weather stations and more.
Watch the video below to learn more about the new Arduino HamShield directly from its creator who has taken to Kickstarter to raise the required $25,000 needed to take his development board into manufacture.

The HamShield supports a wide range of VHF and UHF frequencies, covering 3 amateur bands. This includes the 1.25 meter or “220” band (220 MHz to 225 MHz), which is notoriously hard to find equipment for! It also can transmit on MARS bands.

The HamShield supports both voice and packet radio modes. You could even invent your own digital modes with enough skill. It is compact, lightweight, and works great with any Arduino or Arduino compatible that supports Uno-style shields.

The HamShield is the product of 12 months of design, engineering, and prototyping. This May 2015, we had our final design. We need your support to bring the economies of scale in our favor, fund the final development, part purchasing, and production of our shield, and help bring innovation back to Ham Radio.

With the HamShield, you no longer need a dedicated radio or piece of equipment for each type of operating mode. There is also no need for complicated radio interface cables. The radio is now under your complete control!

So if you think Arduino HamShield is something you could benefit from, visit the Kickstarter website now to make a pledge from $98 and help the Arduino HamShield become a reality.
