Last night I picked up 14 sections of 55G tower for both myself and my dad. One piece is damaged so it will not be usable. Five pieces will be used for my own tower and eight will be used for my dad’s. The short vertical piece will be buried in concrete for the base of my dad’s tower.

A detail of the three-section fiberglass mast on the tripod supporting the antenna. View the large size to see the fiberglass mast sections and the antenna. The fiberglass masts fit over the tripod as if purpose made, then nest on each other. We have four fiberglass sections, but used only three here. We bought the sections at a military surplus store, where they are described as tent poles.

We could have splayed the legs of the tripod out further for greater stability, as the bike mechanic did.

PC SWAP for Antenna Analyzer

This Toshiba A15-S129 is available for swap. Details, if you are a ham radio person: I want to trade a Toshiba Satellite A15-S129 notebook computer for an antenna analyzer.

The Computer:
Celeron 2.4 GHz 400 MHz system bus clock speed
13 by 11.5 by 1.5 inches
6.3 pounds
40 GB hard disk
15-inch active-matrix display (1024×768 maximum resolution
DVD/CD-RW
two USB ports
integrated 56K modem
RJ-45 LAN network port
PCMCIA port (1)

The system fan buzzes when it starts up and after about 3-5 minutes quiets to normal and functions normally. There are about a dozen weird pixels where the screen has touched the touchpad over time all within a 1cm spot, and one 1-pixel-wide vertical line on the monitor. (Photographs show this.)
This would make an excellent PC for portable digital ops, and is a fine general-purpose second machine.
Photos:
I am looking for an MFJ antenna analyzer, or one of another type if you wish to suggest one.
Thanks,
KC7FYS

CQ CQ CQ FROM WW2W WHISKEY WHISKEY TWO WHISKEY
Ok, I confess: The the classic side of my station is not set up yet. The HT-37 transmitter has yet to be tested but the sx-100 is dreamy in it’s reception. I did not even test the d-104 yet. You can’t always trust a picture but trust me: when I find the time I will be up 10 nights in a row working on the 37. Minolta G500 mixed natural and flash light. Hopefully the next pic will be by the glow of all the little dials. ;-)) Behind me, hidden is a National 2-40D with spkr that I inherited from my Uncle Frank who bought it new. I will post it in my normal ham radio set. May I ad that if a burgler can skidaddle down the third floor fire escape with these, he is welcome to them. More likely that my 37 will accompany him on the way down @ 32fps/s.

Remote access – six ways to implement

Remote Access Your Ham Shack – Six Ways To Implement

A lot of amateur radio operators want to be able to remote control or remote access their ham radio equipment when they travel, when they go to the office or when they just go to another room in the house to actually spend quality, albeit multitask, time with their family.

I personally have been using Teamviewer for some time and it works great with my iPad for making JT 65 contacts wherever in the world that I have a Wi-Fi connection.

I’ve also been able to remote control Ham Radio Deluxe using my iPad, or my iPhone, to tune around and listen to sideband on HF or FM on VHF. (I’ve not yet tried to have a voice contact via the iPad – although this article is incentivizing me to finally make that last test that I never got around to.)

My approaches have been working well enough for me so far – but there are lots of other approaches as described in this excellent Acrobat document prepared by Mark, K6UFO, and Brian, N9ADG.

Remote access – six ways to implement

Just click the above photo and it will take you to the Acrobat file for immediate viewing.

I personally plan on trying RemoteHams.com when I have time to get around to it.

Regardless of what I’m using, I’m betting that you will find an idea in their slideshow that will work for you to remote access your shack.

Robert

I had to sell some ham radio equipment to afford this bugger.

.50 caliber revolver with some style! The CorBon 440 grain hardcast bullets are the size of an "AA" battery and with a velocity of over 1600FPS, It would be like getting hit with a bowling ball.

This is a special edition of the Smith&Wesson 500 with four inch barrel for my future backpacking trip in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness (in Montana).

Those are reflections inside the cylinder, not bullets.

Oh, Dont get the wrong idea…
