Honolulu, HI (PRWEB) April 19, 2012
Shacked Software, Hawaii’s leading developer of iPhone and iPad apps, today announced the release of TeleTweet, an all-new mobile app that allows iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch users to send and receive Twitter messages via Morse code. TeleTweet is now available in Apple’s App Store™.
Designed to preserve the look, feel, and sound of classic telegraph keys, TeleTweet integrates with Twitter to give users the nostalgic feeling of sending or receiving a telegram in Morse code. As messages are tapped on the realistic telegraph key, they are automatically translated into letters and numbers and published to your Twitter stream for your followers to read. For people you follow on Twitter, TeleTweet translates their messages into Morse code and prints them via an authentic 1869 Thomas Edison Ticker Tape Machine, as if you were receiving actual telegrams.
“We wanted to give our customers the feeling of sitting down at a telegraph office 150 years ago and tapping out a message to a faraway friend,” said Chad Podoski, co-founder and chief designer at Shacked. “We spent a lot of time getting the look, sounds, and entire experience perfect before we felt ready to release TeleTweet.”
TeleTweet offers simple, two-way Twitter messaging via Morse code, right from your iPhone , iPad, and iPod Touch.
● For outgoing tweets, simply tap your message in the dits and dahs of Morse code and TeleTweet instantly translates them into letters and numbers, and then publishes it to your Twitter stream for your followers to read as usual. With each tap, you hear the clanks and clacks of a 19th century telegraph key.
● For incoming tweets, TeleTweet automatically converts the tweets of those you follow into Morse code and prints out the messages via a realistic ticker tape machine.
In addition, TeleTweet offers iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch users these other benefits:
● Learn Morse code, or use it to teach Morse code to others
● Have messages “read aloud” in Morse code
● Compose tweets with a single finger
● Save the cost of a telegram by using Twitter’s free messaging service
Free Morse Code Cheat Sheet
Those who install TeleTweet before midnight on April 26, 2012, can access a free Morse code cheat sheet, designed in authentic steampunk style. To access the cheat sheet, simply follow @TeleTweetApp and use TeleTweet to create a Twitter message that includes the Twitter handle @TeleTweetApp. Once that message is received, users will be sent the access code to download the free cheat sheet.
A Fun Teaching Tool
“From a purely practical perspective, we built a fun app that will help people learn and teach Morse code,” added Jason Skicewicz, co-founder and chief developer at Shacked. “TeleTweet takes something that millions of people do every day—sending Twitter messages—and turns it into an immersive teaching tool. The best way to learn any language is to put it into daily use. TeleTweet does that for Twitter’s nearly 500 million registered users.”
While satellite and radio communication technologies have prevailed, Morse code remains in widespread use still today, with applications in aviation, amateur radio, and assistive technologies that ease communication for people with disabilities. Morse code is typically learned using the Farnsworth method, which teaches users to send and receive letters by the sound of their respective series of dits and dahs. In North America, the American Radio Relay League still broadcasts a daily Morse code practice transmission.
Pricing & Availability
TeleTweet is now available for purchase for only 99¢ in the Apple App Store at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/teletweet/id424450546?mt=8

Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) May 18, 2012
Andrew M. Seybold continued to be honored for his pro bono work in helping to obtain new radio spectrum for a nationwide Public Safety High-Speed Broadband Network. On May 15, he was honored by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International with the APCO Special Partnership Recognition Award for contributions to the Public Safety Community. On June 10, 2012, he will be one of two persons honored by the National Sheriff’s Association when he will be presented with the NSA’s Presidents Award. In recent months, Seybold also received the APCO Presidents Award and the Radio Club of America’s Sarnoff Citation, RCA’s highest award for contributions to wireless communications.
“Andy has, for many years, tirelessly worked on behalf of the Public Safety Community in obtaining the much needed broadband spectrum for Public Safety,” said Chief Harlin McEwen, Chairman and CEO of the Public Safety Spectrum Trust and Chairman of the Communications & Technology Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). “The bill authorizing this new radio spectrum was signed into law in February, and Andy played a key role in assisting Public Safety in obtaining not only the spectrum but also the funding to help build this first ever nationwide Public Safety network.”
Sheriff Paul H. Fitzgerald, Sheriff of Story County, Iowa and President of the National Sheriffs’ Association, said: “Having Andy on our team as we worked with the Administration, Congress, and the FCC was one of the keys to our success. He contributed his technical knowledge and expertise and helped those in decision-making roles understand how critical this spectrum and funding is to the Public Safety Community.”
Sheriff Bill Brown, Santa Barbara County, California, added: “Andy was indefatigable in working to obtain essential broadband spectrum for Public Safety use. His extraordinary knowledge of the subject and his skillful advocacy were instrumental in convincing lawmakers to craft and pass — and the President to sign — landmark legislation that takes a huge step forward in standardizing and improving Public Safety communications nationwide. We are particularly proud that a member of the Santa Barbara community played such a key role in this successful process.”
“I am deeply honored to receive these prestigious awards,” Seybold said. “I was one member of a team of dedicated Public Safety professionals, each of whom helped move this issue to the point where Congress acted on it and the Administration signed it into law. It was a team effort and I enjoyed being part of the team. Nevertheless, there is much work remaining to be done to make this network a reality, and the Public Safety Community has re-dedicated itself to making it happen as quickly as possible. Enabling Public Safety with high-speed data and video capabilities built on a mission-critical network will save lives and property, and ensure the safety of those who respond to emergencies every day.”
Seybold is CEO and Principal Consultant for Andrew Seybold, Inc., a wireless industry consultancy that presents educational sessions, contributes articles to many publications, and provides wireless consulting services to the Public Safety and commercial wireless industries on an international basis. He is also active in the Santa Barbara community as a member of the technical committee for the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club (SBARC), and as President of the Santa Barbara Telecommunications Advisory Council (SBTAC), a non-profit corporation established to assist other non-profits and educational organizations with planning and implementing their own communications networks.

Oakland, CA (PRWEB) June 14, 2012
Burning Man, the legendary week-long burst of artistic expression, is just around the corner and Bay Area industrial arts school The Crucible wants to fan the flames of creativity with its 2012 Playa Boot Camp Workshops filled with several smoldering classes on Saturday and Sunday, June 23 and 24.
“If you’ve been to Black Rock City, you know how rugged and desolate it is: no paved roads, no one else around for miles, and limited cell phone coverage,” said David Marr, graphic designer “There’s nothing worse than making the trek all the way out there and realizing that you are not at prepared as you’d like.”
Ideal for students with a hectic schedule and limited time, The Crucible’s Playa Bootcamp will give both veteran pyros and newbie fire-starters alike the chance to learn a new talent or finish an old project for Burning Man this summer.
The industrial and fine arts school will provide everything needed to make a big impact, with classes like Fire Eating Torches, Demystifying Light Emitting Diodes (LED), Burn Barrel, TIG & Titanium, Playa Bike: Desert Readiness 101, Flame Effects for Art, Earn Your Ham Radio License in Just Two Days, Copyright Law for Artists and Playa Tent Stakes.
These classes can be used to complete a welding project, learn more about flame effects, make a burn barrel, or even illuminate a playa bike – beach cruiser-like bikes that Burners are encouraged to bring to properly navigate through the sandy desert land.
During the entry-level Forging Fire Eating Torches class, students will learn how to make two of their own personal fire eating performance tools while practicing basic forging techniques like tapering, flattening and twisting.
In the Earn Your Ham Radio License in Just Two Days! course, Crucible instructors will teach students about the ultimate desert survival necessity and only reliable means of long-distance communication in the Black Rock Desert – amateur radio.
Courses like these offer exclusive instruction from artists and experts and will not be found anywhere else outside of The Crucible’s 56,000-square foot studio.
No experience is required to participate in any of The Crucible’s Playa Bootcamp Workshops and the school will provide all the materials needed to help students prepare for Burning Man 2012.
For more information about The Crucible’s Playa Bootcamp Workshops or to enroll, visit http://www.thecrucible.org or call 510-444-0919. The Crucible is located in West Oakland at 1260 7th Street, Oakland, CA 94605.
