@kc9tns – Looking forward to working you in the future. I am jealous . . . I tried over and over to work D4C with no luck . . . unable to break thru the pile-up ;–)

    Congratulations on D4C!

@FlatwoodsBushcraft – I have HRD on my laptop . . . just did not have it running. I had my hands full with just trying to get the call signs on the first go . . . I have LOTS to learn for sure. Next contest I will give that a try. Thanks for keeping an eye out for me 😉

Nice work, David. Good job working the DX. The 10 meter contest was crazy this weekend, lots of DX but too fast for my taste. Check out HamLog (has a 73 icon) for iPad and iPhone. You can look up the call, log it and export the logs. It also has tools like propagation reports, DX spotting, grid square mapping, the Part 97 rules, etc. You’ll probably like it, it’s a little easier to use than qrz.com on the iPad/iPhone. I saw you have my old qsl card in your collection. I’m honored. It looks li

@TeakPhillips - Too fast is right! I had to sit and listen, listen, listen until I got the call and exchange. I did learn there is no point talking until you have that data down. I will be submitting a log of 19 entries . . . hope that won’t be too taxing for the ARRL contest committee 😉

That is a great tip for the iPad and I will check out HamLog.

It is an honor to have your card in my collection!

@USNERDOC I agree. I have always been a little shy talking on the radio not really knowing what to say but I just kind of jumped in. I had an issue with my radio (it’s 28 years old) and I thought I wasn’t getting out. I just tried it and then someone from Minnesota answered back and that just floored me considering my poorly built antenna was only meant for testing. I didn’t intend to actually use it to contact anyone at any significant distance. Also, I was just using 40-50 watts

@TheUrbanPrepper – Thanks! HAM radio is a great hobby and very useful for the prep per. Communications is key . . . without it you are blind to the operating environment during a disaster.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

iPad cut off my message: It looks like we’ll have to have another QSO so I can send you the card with my new call sign W0TLP.

    Keep the videos coming.

Enjoy your great videos! Hope to catch you on 10 meters soon! Going for my extra in the a few months, but think it is great that techs get up to 28.500. Considering your general soon?

Nice video. I was chiming in here and there that same weekend and it was my first weekend scanning 10 meters and making contacts. I’m making a concerted effort to try and not contact the same one twice since some of them get pretty upset if you call them more than once! LOL
I’m green, but I’m learning as fast as I can!
Hope to catch you on 10M someday.

@Mobilesparky – understood! I am very green as well and I did get the “subtle” impression not to make contact twice as they are very focused on racking up contest points. I did try to focus on getting a feeling of the flow for an operator, as well as, his call sign & exchange before actually jumping in to make a contact.

I look for ward to dating you on 10 meters in the future.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Merry christmas from Scotland! Would be great to hook up on Echolink sometime. Still waiting to get on HF. Really admire your 857, so it may be a purchase in the near future! Good to see a new ham having fun. I’ve only been licenced 3 months!

I do the same thing with listening for the call and finding it on QRZ before attempting to make contact. Its not about making 1000 contacts for me, its more about where all can I talk to. Sort of a quality over qty. Only had a ECHOLINK QSO with you but maybe one day I’ll catch you on 6 or 10 (which you seem to prefer). 73, WV8KFA

@USNERDOC Are you still a TECH? For some reason I thought you had upgraded. I still need to cram for the EXTRA before the pool changes this year. 73, WV8KFA
