I know some guys who would rather play video games in an emergency instead of helping people. Watch the video and please give your answer in the comments box! Thank you very much!

lets assume for the sake of discussion, that the tornado blew that radio
out of your hand and smashed it against a brick wall into a million pieces?
or what if your batteries supernova’d?

I choose the Amateur Radio. When I got my license as a teenager several
years ago we did not have high speed internet out here. Ham radio was my
link to the world and still is a great passion. You may want to check into
ARES (and RACES if/when you are 18 y.o.) and get involved if you have not
done so already. Take time to enjoy, have fun, and learn more about radio
in the good times and apply what you have learned and know in the bad times
    with emergency communications. 73

congratulations on passing your technical license. Might want to point out
that VOIP (used by XBox live, skpe etc) was developed by radio amateurs.
Anyway for me amateur radio wins over Xbox 360 Hope to see you down the
    log. 73 Paul M3XPR

You know it’s funny, I just retired (@46) And I thought i’d buy a video
game system as i have time now. I opted to spend the time and study for the
Ham tests on QRZ.com. after two weeks of long hours I took my tec and gen
test and did very well, I missed 6 out of 70 questions, I bought a yeasu
ft-8800r, and hoked it up as a base station, I am going back for my extra
this thusday. I could have spent the same amount of effort (and money) on a
video ganme system and had nothing to show for it. 73

Keep up the good video work and ham radio. You will talk to some
interesting people on HF from all over the world. Pitcaran Island is a
interesting place where there are ham radio operators. The home of the
Bounty in Bounty bay where she rest.

Hey there! I myself have both a Ham Radio and an Xbox 360. Yeah, the Xbox
is cool, sure, but Ham Radio is much more interesting to me. 73’s Have a
    good one.

I like the people that say cell phones… I’m not a ham or anything just a
bit of interest in all electronics. There’s two major flaws in the cell
phone fall back. 1) The tower is likely going to be down in an emergency
such as a flood or storm. 2) If the tower is “operationally” functioning
during the emergency they are not designed nor capable of handling the
amount of traffic they would receive. Meaning your calls out would either
go immediately busy or be dropped.

I’d spend my money on guns/knives so in an emergency I can steal your radio
and anything else I can run away with. 😀 (incudling your buddys xbox) hee

Well I would have the ham radio anyday.. I have just passed my foundation
which is like the US technician licence.. We dont get many emergency
situations here in the UK like you guys do, but its better than being sat
infront of a tv all day playing games…..

@ab8xx Oh and by the way: get a pelican case to store your 2m HT and
accessories in. They are waterproof, crush resistant, and are downright
rugged. That way the thing will work after “tornado has rattled it around”
lol. Also keep a fresh set of batteries in there. Get an external magnet
mount antenna to put on a car or cookie sheet as a ground plane to extend
it’s range. This makes for a true grab and go radio kit.
