Thanks Peter. I remember reading Short Wave Magazine years ago, and just
skipping past the data modes sections. I had no interest in it back then.
Im just glad these modes are still in use today! Looking back, I wouldve
hated to have missed all the data thats out there on HF.

Hi, Im just using a longwire. Its about 65ft running north/south. All I did
here was tune to 4583kHz USB (actually I find 4582kHz a little better),
open up SeaTTY, Click MODE and make sure its set to RTTY, then click SPEED
and make sure its set to 50 BAUD, then click SHIFT and make sure its set to
450 HZ. Make sure the AFC button is pressed, and then just left click the
mouse between the two peaks you should see on the graph. Simples. Enjoy.

comms ship-ship-shore (also in nato, with a crypto device between radio and
teletyper) – i have been operating these things in the navy 🙂

a Tecsun PL-600 and want to make a higher step. I was thinking about
getting the DX-394 or the Yaesu FRG-100, but this one maybe escapes from my
budget. I realized that, for the price, de DX394 is great.
@freddielaker2 Skysweeper does it. For a free online decoder, just Google
the words “setarnet arubawx decoder” and hit the first page that comes up.

simples!!!…. international code for message eNs eom nothing more nothing
less. after that there was usually 8 cr lf on a teleprinter to space the
messages out. – thats 8 carriage returns and line feeds.
I love seeing the zczc starters, we were taught that the zczc was
equivalent to 1.5 seconds space for the governor in a teleprinter to
regulate the speed of the motor…. some stuff u never forget!

Hi Spzatt mate. Good to see you again. Second hand ‘394s are nearly always
on eBay. they go for £90-ish. Try and get an unmodified one, people will
tell you the ‘394 needs modifying…. Ive never thought so myself. There
are other good receivers out there in the second hand market. The Target
HF3 is good too. I think there are people out there interested in the ISS,
I havent got around to that yet, but its on my list!

was fun setting up the keys on a daily basis,it was called a bidbox

Thanks for the info. Did you get to the SYNOP decoder ok? If not I’ll send
a link. I *think* SeaTTY also does SYNOP, though that is a time limited
trial bit of software. One thats worth registering if youre into NAVTEX,
and RTTY if you ask me though.
Great video, I like how it keeps its lock even as the signal fades. I love
decodingn HF signals though I miss the old stuff like VFT multichannel.
if you find the software “navtmsg” then it would automatically decode
seatty synops.. no need of copypasting… also map display. problem is, the
website hosting that sowftare is down.. and i lost the install package..
