@hitachi088 2 meter repeaters can be commanded by users to link up. You can
go for hundreds of miles if you don’t mind hogging all repeaters while
you’re doing it. Who knows, maybe they can even link up to a HF hop to get
across the pond. I wonder if anyone uses the ‘Net as a backbone for radio
links?

SETI?
@heroineworshipper We did a little Rtty mode packet radio on the lighthouse
weekend, check the VK2MB International Lighthouse video on youtube,
starting at 5minute mark.
OE is austria 😀 Iam from there
@laharl2k people do share the internet via ham radio but the speeds are
slower than a 56k modem plus all the interference it would be fairly
unreliable look up SSTV it is a way of sending a image via radio/audio
@xxxRyanxEdgexxx of course they exist.
@axel1973w just wanted to add a little extra info. The whole point of using
phonetics is to get the message across. During some contacts it becomes
clear the that the NATO phonetics are not being heard correctly, so mixing
it up with other well know word can be effective.
If you’re wondering why HAMs don’t simply use a cellphone: The whole fun of
it is that there is no infrastructure between you and the nerd at the other
side. Your communications range is virtually limited only by the equipment
you put together (buy or….MAKE!) and your knowledge and skill.
Is it me or does the gentleman with the grey/white hair and beard look the
spitting image of George W. Bush!

Err “Mexico Boston” can some one explain this one to me please ?
@DO5TMX Oh and don’t get scared off by all the Emergency Communciations
whackers. Amateur radio surely is a nice back-up for communication systems
that depend on shared infrastructure but it’s a hobby primarily.
@CorbyStarletCj1 vk2MB, equivalent to Mike Bravo I suppose?
Are you a HAm radio amateur? i´m EA1IFF, i would like to contact you!
Thanks for the video, 73´s and good luck!

During the cold war days “woodpecker” filters were very popular to filter
out the signal from the Russian OTH radar systems. DUGA-3 is one of the OTH
radar stations that now lies within the 30 km exclusion zone as a result of
the chernobyl disaster. The transmitting antennas were massive, the
receiving antennas were less than half of the size. Crazy stuff.
@laharl2k part of it was corporate interference to prevent it from taking
off. They would lose control of any possible profits they could gain if
they were the only ones that had the “technology” to connect people.
haha not in America… cb’ers “freeband” which is using the bands next to
the cb bands. we also run more than 5 watts of power… I heard people from
aus on the radio so some people down there don’t have a issue talking in
with cb guys from usa..
Nice video Dave 73’s ON4AAH Belgium.
we have this thing called the internet now : ) friend of mine made this app
called teamtalk for voice over ip. no static : ) but I guess they’ll be
important in an apocalypse of sorts : )
@secondgear26 I guess if I’d watched more before posting, I would see…
@mitpatterson Yep, same guy!
@CorbyStarletCj1 – Mexico Boston is the same as Mike Bravo. But part of
what is called the DX Phonetic Alphabet. ac6v.com/dxphonetics.htm
Did I see a ZC1 at 3:07 ? Great vid Dave.

Love those Rohn 45s. If we ever get broadband at WL the last link will be a
Rohn45!
Awesome video Ray. Keep them coming! Love to see the tower videos
I think I have the dubious honor of Ham radio’s most inactive call sign. In
about 25 years I have had about 6 QSOs. I have renewed twice but I don’t
know why. I can not afford anything but a scanner. To carry a scanner in a
car, in Indiana, I have to have an amateur radio license. I am not sure if
this law still stands in Indiana. I came within 20 minutes of letting the
grace period expire last time. Someone convinced me to renew. I just can
not afford a transceiver, though I salvaged one I have been working on for
a few months. It has failed again, but I will have it repaired and running
again after payday.
All you need is a valid ham license and you can operate stations like this
on the RHR network. $99 setup fee and pay per minute.
