Roger that ~ I’m planning to take it apart and go through the ARRL
tutorials and see if it’s something silly first.

I would say that you have cooked the PA from using exceeding the power
output while using digimodes. In Digimodes , PSK31 SSTV — whatever , your
power output must be set WAYYY down , perhaps 15 to 30W on a 100W rig. This
is because the duty cycle of these types of transmssisons is higher than in
other modes. It therefore generates more heat and you are then that much
closer to a melt down. 100W Ham rigs are not 100W continiuous duty.

Yeah, 50 would be too much. I am wondering if the cooling fans were on ?
With my Yaesu radio’s even in SSB at 100W the fans will kick in if your rag
chew goes over a few minutes in length .,, and SSB is quite low duty cycle.
Hope you get the old radio fixed , its probably just a bad solder joint in
the PA , around the transistors.

Yep – I think that too. I kept looking at my wattmeter and and sure I was
at 50w or under while transmitting psk31 – I guess maybe what I should do
is set the power to 30w in my dummy load before going on the air, and then
not touch the power output at all once that’s set. I think I’m going to be
a little gun shy when I get my next radio. Thank you for your input~!
