Icom IC-7000’s started arriving at all Ham Radio Outlet locations this week, so I took the opportunity to stop in and pick one up. This is the first mobile H…

The Hand mic (That I also plan on using on my GXT1000’s) has a round CB microphone type clip that’s great if you have a dashboard instead of a shoulder. So I…

cool
Great idea thank you for sharing! To bad they don’t offer that as option. I
have one that kind of looks like that fits my Kenwood TH-F6 tri-band hand
held ham radio I got at HRO Ham Radio Outlet. I think MJF Electronics
offers it too. It has the ear plug too. I think I paid around $18.00 usd
for it in the store. It was the generic microphone but it fits the Kenwood
radio.
Cool ideal Jim. Thank you for sharing.
Nice work!
Is the $85 license fee a one time deal?
10-99; we are 10-65
Man, I am jealous. Only difference is I would have been doing this opening
video in the HRO Parking lot!! Looking for lots more videos on this beauty.
Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!
I’ll stick with my trusty 7000. And btw, I’ve never had a power drop of any
kind because of the fuse holders. I’ve had my 7000 for about 4 years now
and it’s been mobile and and used as a base. Fuse holders on my power cord
are as clean as the day I bought it!! Sry I had to chuckle at the comment
you made about the fuse holders!! Any how, the 7100 is a nice rig but can
not be classified as a mobile rig. A touch screen and driving don’t mix.
Nice concept but my 7000 will do much better mobile!
Thank you very much for the nice words! Is there anything specifically you
don’t like about the radio?
Great job on the video. Nice and clear. I have played with the unit at HRO.
I think that hams using D-Star will find it a nice addition to their base
or mobile setups. I wish it had a color screen as some others have noted. I
did not realize it had resistive touch screen so thanks for that
information. Nice and compact. I will be interested on comments about the
receiver compared to the IC7000 and FT480SAT.
I would have loved to, but I think my XYL would have been even more upset
🙂 LOVING this radio so far from a functional perspective. Haven’t played
HF on it yet and won’t get to for a while.
I can see that the radio is very nice in terms of options. The resistor
toch display etc…. One of the main raison i dont like the radio is the
disign of the front. My idea of front painel is another. Other one is the
fact the simple collor display. Icom as so good radios with great
multicolor display. Yes it will increase the price but i think that will be
better for the bat disign of the front. But it´s just my opinion. like i
said the radio is great. 73
Nice on boxing video.
Thanks for the comment David! I don’t think much is missed by not having a
color screen, as there’s no information displayed tha twould benefit from
color. The contrast ratio is also quite nice. While I have owned both the
7000 and the 480 in the past, I don’t have them any longer. I do have
access to a 480, so maybe in the fall I’ll be able to arrange a shootout. I
have a lot of solar videos I’m working on in the mean time!
Nice unboxing video, very nice. But sorry i dont like the radio. But it´s
just my opinion. Wish you lot´s of great qso’s with the new radio 73 and
thanks for sharing
I will be doing an overview of the menus soon. I will admit that at first,
I didn’t buy in to this radio, but the display is VERY nice! I don’t think
anything online does it justice. I agree that color would be nice, but I
don’t miss it at all. THe only thing I think could be better so far is the
band scope. More videos to come!
You right, i just see the radio on the net. I will see your next review.
Thanks
Vy nice video ! 73, PA9CW
First, for more information on the corrosion problem for the IC-7000,
please see the video description-I have added a link. I would argue that
the 7000 is just as dangerous to fiddle with while driving given that there
are very few controls and multiple levels of menus – both would be
difficult while keeping your eyes on the road!
So after a little bit of use. Would you recommend this or the Ic-7000 for a
mobile setup?
I suspect that power cable is so long because it is meant for vehicle
mounting.
Thanks for the video, great unboxing video
