Love my 817 on 2M SSB if you want some extra power to make a contact I have an RM Italy 2M amp the KL 144 and it works great gives me about 20 watts out which is sometimes enough to get me over the top. I run a 4 EL arrow beam on 2 and a 5 el arrow on 432 at 25 feet and have worked EM31 from EM50.

I prefer QRP but once in while I run a TPL communications amp. 5w in get’s me 56w out on 2 meters. It’s an AB biased amp and runs very clean on SSB. Never worked a far grid on 2M yet. Haven’t run into any tropo or ducting but I’m sure as I try more it’ll happen. 73!
