This video is number five in my Driveway Mechanics Series. I created the driveway Mechanic Series as a help support type guide, for certain projects I do in my driveway. I do not have a garage, as most do, So the title of my series is perfect for my online show episodes. Please feel free to comment, and subscribe.
This video is the part 5 of a series of six showing how to properly tune up a Yaesu FT 101 transceiver to an antenna.
Video Rating: 5 / 5

They are not all rheostats. Some are capacitors. Just nitpicking for good information for the newbies.
Great videos! Do you know the difference between the “EE” model, and the “EX” model? Do you know if it would come with factory installed 11 meter crystal?
Thanks
You mean clueless no coders?

Good work Dan, looks good!
–> Thanks Charlie… Like to get this on video, to pass ideas back and forth with building, and working and repairing stuff. In this case, a radio I installed to be mobil.
Your welcome Dan, it is kool that you do that! I might just do that with computers when I get better with them..
- Yes, you should do that Charlie… You’ll enjoy making them.
I shall do just that. Thanks for the encouragement Dan!
-> Sorry, Mike…. I cant take the CB out, Being a tractor trailer driver.. I use it alot as well, being I have other driver friends who only use CB, and are not HAM operators…
— also just to add, it is hard to get road traffic updates on 2meter, where CB it is much easier to find out road/lane closures, accidents, etc… Each radio has a purpose….
Upgrade to General and use a used ICOM IC-706 Mobile.Wont need that CB anymore. One radio, clean and tidy install.
I have upgraded to General, since the making of this video. Thanks for sharing… Either way I will still use the 11 meter, due to my job. But yes I agree HF on the Icom IC-706 is more ‘fun’… ~73
0:37 – too late, it’s been just over 1 year and I have too much money invested in the hobby. =)
Straight to the batt w/o a relay means now you have to power on/off everytime, all of my add-ons are powered through a 100amp continous duty relay thats signaled through ignition(not acc.)so I don’t evedr have to worry bout killin the batt or turnin stuff off when I park.
Thanks for the comment FF38. Yep, I could of wired it that way as well… I wanted to be able to sit and just have the radio on at times. I like working special events or Em-Com ops. I rarely forget to shut the unit off, so I dont worry about that. Beside the Yaesu FT-7900 has an auto off timer that you setup… I believe mine is set for like 1/2 hour or something like that. So even if I forget to shut the radio off. The radio will turn itself off. Thanks for checking out my videos.
Gotch ya,actually I think my radio has the same feature,Icom 208H,I just didnt want ya to be stuck with a dead batt,I know Ive killed many batts w/direct wired stuff, I’m a Heavy Haul “A”driver myself, catch ya on da flip side driver 10-4, KD2BNE 73
Rodger that… I do not get to take my 2m with me in the 5 axle… I am in and out of 3 tractors all day on the short haul… kind of a pain moving them around. Perhaps an HT with a clamped external? Once I get one that is… ~73
