NIce build! Have you considered running the return audio through the mixer as well? You can use the left channel for the mic and the right channel for the return audio and then mix your radio outputs.

Hey remarkosmoc, I never thought of that. What good idea. I may do that one day. I recently made a cable for my Alinco DR-635 and it is now running through the Behringer. Thanks for idea.

Hi Gary, this is an excellent setup and I’ve been wanting to try this but have a couple of questions:
3:56 What is the purpose of the center 1/8 inch jack on the project box?
4:13 Is the CAT-5 cable wired to the VHF rig’s mic jack?
4:45 A splitter comes from under the IC-718 with a cable to the PTT and a cable to the mixer. How is this wired to the IC-718?
6:33 You mention the addition of a foot switch. How will this be connected?

I have a similar setup using a 6 channel Behringer and a boom stand and studio mic and have used them for years. If you are using this setup on a radio that has voltage on the mic in line you need to use a blocking cap. This is perfect to use on a Ic706 as it will drive the radio on ssb to the full 100 watts out. My 2 cents save the money you would spend on a heil mic and buy 1 of these instead. I have a Hiel mic made for the Icoms and it still does not drive the rig to full power out on ssb.

Couple of questions cause I have to do something like that cause my Alinco DX-SR8 does not have a “VOX” mode. What parts do you have inside project box? Is the 6 pin RJ11 (Yeasu) and the 8 pin connector (ICOM) connected to project box then the audio jacks run to mixer? It would be cool if you did a quick video on that project box for all those who do not have VOX option on their rigs.

BCKROADS, I will post some pics after Thanksgiving and show you the inside of the box.
I’m not running VOX on my set up.

throttleup, From the project box, I have an cable going to the VHF and HF radio. I simply use the toggle switch to change radios. I will make a detailed video on the project box after thanksgiving.

I use the Marshal MXP-990 as my main microphone and I also own a Heil PR-40. I’ve been told multiple times by many operators on many occasions since about 2006 that the Marshal MXP-990 sounds much better than the much more expensive Heil PR-40. Also, have you experienced any ‘crackling’ noise when turning your mixer nobs? I have the exact same model as your mixer and after about 2 years of use the pots began ‘crackling’ due to oxidization… 73 -VA3AWP
