John…thx fer posting the vid. I find that with cw contest it is hard to get a dit or dah in edgewise. Maybe I should try calling cq some time…lots of the time the other op sending is too fast for me…I have ADD or ADHD so that does not help much in a pile up… Have found the guys on the SKCC Sked Page to be very help full.

Congrats for jumping in on SKN. It can be intimidating. I really enjoy your videos. Fred WO2P QRV 160m – 78 Ghz. -73
VY FB on your SKN. Great video. I could not participate, this year (sigh). Glad that you posted this video, so that I could enjoy “being there” proxy via you… happy new year, 2012. 73 de NW7US, Tomas.

Tnx for watching and following along!

Carl,
Tnx for watching and for following along. I was pretty slow but found lots of folks would slow down for a good copy. I’ll be back next year for sure.

Derek,
Tnx for watching and for your comments. I had a struggle learning CW, I’m an old guy, but it really is a LOT of fun.
Go ahead and start learning, take your time and have a good journey along the way. Catch you next year on SKN.

ur getting gd, ur fist sounds gd. to bad i missed u, i tried to use a different key for every couple of contacts while doing skn, i collect military keys. what freq. do you hang out on. tony KA(HJZ. hpe cul
John,
Congratulations.
Your CW was very easy to copy with very good spacing and timing. I cannot fault it. Don’t be afraid to move onto other keying methods. I regularly use a bug key. My experience tells me that the hardest key of them all is the straight key! Well it is for me anyway! I developed glass arm so can only imagine how greatful the early telegraphist must have been when the bug key came along.
Happy new year my friend.

Tony,
Tnx for your comments. I usually hang around 7.111 =/- in the evenings and always open for a QSO or sked.

do you recommend an entry point mobile radio?
well not all truckers!!!
Doc, just heard a guy in Beaverton, OR — Wasn’t able to reach him but heard him about 44, S5
on 10M
One of these days I will get an HF rig, I already have the General License heheheh and a power source. Opps, need an antenna too. 🙂 73
Thanks for sharing, 73!
Going for my ham ticket in about a month. Is it super hard? I’m using hamtestonline for studying.

No action today.
I look forward to see your video on mfg the dipole antenna!
Goes to show how the public doesnt really understand what amateur radio is. The neighbor needs to be given an intro course, and maybe we will gain one more for the cause.
– Well said!
– Just study . . . trust me, if I can do it anyone can. Good luck!
– Will have to catch up with you again on 10m . . . I am on a road trip to Seattle for family business.
– very true . . . thought of that AFTER the comment . . . my bust!
I’m envious of you. I’ve tried to contact the ISS multiple times with no luck. I think my only problem is they arent ever on when they are passing over. Thanks so much for your videos though! They are very helpful. I’ve had my license since march of 2011 (Rough guess) and am just now getting over the fear of pressing that little PTT button. Thanks again for the videos and your interest in Amateur Radio!

Howdy US NERD OC, I wish it was 44F here, but instead it’s 84F today, glad to see you’re posting vids again

@usnerdoc Have you tried the VX-8 with the 6m dipole? If so, I would LOVE to see a video!
– VX-8 doesn’t do USB unfortunately ;-(
Haha I know that :-p I meant on FM.
– understood . . . well as you know there are mixed modes on 6m . . . I sure do wish the VX-8 did have USB mode as that would be a nice package. Just between you and I, that is how I figured out that the VX-8 did not have USB. I had it hooked up to my little dipole but could not make contacts . . . ONLY THEN did I read the manual to figure out there was no USB!
– I think the bigger problem is that they are not on the radio except for scheduled school contacts ;-(
I still listen, however until they decide to use some of there off time for guys like us ISS / NA1SS will remain silent.
