Me neither until today. It’s nigh impossible with SO-50 but clearly doable with AO-27. Surprised me!

Nice vid Sterling… I can recommend the Arrow antenna mentioned above. Helps to pull in the weak signals near the beginning & end of the pass. 73

Nice, made my first on a whip. I’ve QSO’d 3-4 of the guys you contacted on this vid so I’ll catch ya soon on the birds! BTW Why do we have to mix it up with “Norway” and “Sugar”… I don’t get it, it’s November Sierra. 73 KB7SNQ DN40gl

Same reason people use kilowatt, canada, zanzibar, santiago…Some just do it for fun, others do it to annoy, and others do it to replace with shorter or longer phrases in fast modes or weak signal ops, respectively. In my case norway and sugar are fewer syllables and are still effective. I only use them on FM or during contests. 10 syllables vs 13 with ITU phonetics…small, probably doesn’t make a huge difference, but eh.

You’ll notice a few hams might call you by killawatt baker 7 sugar nancy queen,..hopefully not to offend, but other’s have simply adopted other phonetics that they think works better than others. Cest la vie! and 73 😀

I did, and have since I came to S&T (2 years now). I worked finish radio the first time and spectator marshal radio for the 2nd. It’s always lots of fun!

that was my second time working a rally, and first working 100AW. I’ll be at the perryville rally this year. I hope to get spectator radio again, I loved it at 100AW. if you see a cargo van doing radio, thats me.

I’ll be watching. I wish I could find the time at 100AW to do a video from a ham’s perspective, but it’s pretty active. I don’t do Perryville due to conflicts, but never miss 100AW. I’ll be looking out. I’m going to be in either my Silver Sentra or my friends beast PT cruiser.

Great Job, excellent video. AO-27 is a good bird to get started with satellite on since as you demonstrated, you don’t need a lot of fancy equipment to make a contact.
