This is a quick view occurring on the evening of 15 August, 2011. The radio is an Icom IC-7000 transceiver, and the antenna is a Hustler vertical with the 20-meter resonator, mounted on the apartment balcony, on the second floor of the building. Adding inductance lowers the resonant frequency of the antenna – great! It also increases the Q or sharpness, so reducing the frequency range it can be tuned over – not so great. This worked quite well on 6m, but I had better luck on HF without the coil.

Part 2: DAIWA CNW 518 Antenna Tuner Tuning Procedure

The DAIWA Model CNW-518 is rated @ 2.5 kW RF PEP output for the Ham Bands of 3.5 to 30 mHz. This antenna tuner has be modified to include some of the out of band frequency in the upper bands from 20 meters to 10 meters. This mode was probably made for MARS operation. This mode does not include 11 meters. This video clip shows tuning the tuner into a Cushcraft R5 vertical antenna (20 to 10 meters coverage) The RF is being supplied by an Yaesu FT-890 Transceiver.
