Sometimes people ask me how to use aprs.fi with D-Star. This might not be exactly what they were asking for, but here is a video displaying the new beta version of aprs.fi running over D-Star on 1298.125 MHz (128 Kbit/s DD mode, Icom ID-1). Works like a charm!

Quite naturally I am using IP addresses from the amateur radio AMPRnet range (44.x.y.z) for the radio link. The web site is loaded over the 1.2 GHz radio link, both ends use Icom ID-1 radios which act as an Ethernet bridge. The laptop is directly connected to the ID-1 using the shown Ethernet plug (and wifi is disabled, of course).

This video was shot at the OH2K club station in Kauniainen (www.krk.fi), sound track courtesy of OH2GEK working HF a few feet to the right.

Digital Down Converter Filter for Software Defined Radio Receiver: Optimization of Equiripple FIR filter using MATLAB, System Generator, ModelSim, Synplify Pro, ISE Software and FPGA

The power consumption in a communication system depends on the technology of the processor and the number of processing stages in decimation part. Programmability in the decimation filter, allows it to adapt to the different channel bandwidths, interferers requirements of the different standards, while maintained the power consumption at a minimum. The appearance of various standards in communication technologies in the world requires a good technique that able to provide a compatible standard r

The online industry publication SatelliteToday reports that the UKube-1 CubeSat is “experiencing an anomaly with its primary communications link.” To work around the problem, the United Kingdom Space Agency (USKA) has commanded the small spacecraft to use an alternate configuration of what it called “the FUNcube-2 transceiver,” using it as the satellite’s temporary downlink. I am still fascinated whenever using low radio wattage to make contacts. This video shows a radio contact between Alabama and Virginia using 5 watts from a Yaesu 817ND from Ditto Landing in Huntsville, AL on September 10, 2009. Antenna used was a Comet RS 730 on the side-door of my 2001 Sonoma pickup.

I just got PSK31 working with my radio, and made a very inexpensive “interface” if you can even call it that. I worked a couple stations tonight, and this is a video of the one I managed to get recorded on air. Made contact with VE6VIS. Disclaimer, this is probably one of the more boring, and long videos I’ve made.

This is version 2 of my demo for an arduino antenna tuner. In this version I swapped the coil with a new, somewhat larger one, which has an extra connection about halfway. Using a relay (controlled by the Arduino) the inductance can be switched between half and full. In each position, the capacitor makes a full sweep, while the Arduino monitors the reflection (watch the right meter in the back!). After this, it puts the inductor and capacitor in the position with the lowest SWR. This demo is quite slow, I experimented with different speeds and was able to let it tune within 2 seconds! Ok, this is just a concept, I just wanted to show how the Arduino could be useful for radio amateurs. The SWR meter (in the back) is hooked up to the Arduino, also a servo is attached which drives a capacitor. This capacitor forms a simple L-tuner, together with an inductor which you can’t see on this video. The Arduino does a full sweep on the capacitor while measuring the SWR. It stores the position with the lowest SWR and after the sweep it rotates the capacitor to that position. Mind the SWR meter (right needle) while the capacitor is rotating! www.hamradiofinds.com Here is a video showing the JW MIller AT-2500 HF Ham Radio Automatic Antenna Tuner..This tuner covers 80-10 meters & will handle 2Kw+ of power..It has one input & 5 outputs, including one long wire connection..It runs on 110VAC, but can be switched to run on 220VAC..The tank circuit is well constucted using heavy duty parts..This would make a great addition to any HF ham radio shack..Thanks for watching..73s, Mel, WA5UTK
