Oakland, CA (PRWEB) June 14, 2012

Burning Man, the legendary week-long burst of artistic expression, is just around the corner and Bay Area industrial arts school The Crucible wants to fan the flames of creativity with its 2012 Playa Boot Camp Workshops filled with several smoldering classes on Saturday and Sunday, June 23 and 24.

“If you’ve been to Black Rock City, you know how rugged and desolate it is: no paved roads, no one else around for miles, and limited cell phone coverage,” said David Marr, graphic designer “There’s nothing worse than making the trek all the way out there and realizing that you are not at prepared as you’d like.”

Ideal for students with a hectic schedule and limited time, The Crucible’s Playa Bootcamp will give both veteran pyros and newbie fire-starters alike the chance to learn a new talent or finish an old project for Burning Man this summer.

The industrial and fine arts school will provide everything needed to make a big impact, with classes like Fire Eating Torches, Demystifying Light Emitting Diodes (LED), Burn Barrel, TIG & Titanium, Playa Bike: Desert Readiness 101, Flame Effects for Art, Earn Your Ham Radio License in Just Two Days, Copyright Law for Artists and Playa Tent Stakes.

These classes can be used to complete a welding project, learn more about flame effects, make a burn barrel, or even illuminate a playa bike – beach cruiser-like bikes that Burners are encouraged to bring to properly navigate through the sandy desert land.

During the entry-level Forging Fire Eating Torches class, students will learn how to make two of their own personal fire eating performance tools while practicing basic forging techniques like tapering, flattening and twisting.

In the Earn Your Ham Radio License in Just Two Days! course, Crucible instructors will teach students about the ultimate desert survival necessity and only reliable means of long-distance communication in the Black Rock Desert – amateur radio.

Courses like these offer exclusive instruction from artists and experts and will not be found anywhere else outside of The Crucible’s 56,000-square foot studio.

No experience is required to participate in any of The Crucible’s Playa Bootcamp Workshops and the school will provide all the materials needed to help students prepare for Burning Man 2012.

For more information about The Crucible’s Playa Bootcamp Workshops or to enroll, visit http://www.thecrucible.org or call 510-444-0919. The Crucible is located in West Oakland at 1260 7th Street, Oakland, CA 94605.
