I recently became a General licensed and ordered an Yaesu HF gear but now thinking it would be best for that gear to be on the base and should have purchased a 2m radio such as the Yaesu FT-8800R for my mobile setup. Anyway, question I have is that what is the difference between 8800 and 8900? For me I would probably install the antenn permanently near the roof. -KC2ZXL

8800 is a dual band, 8900 is a crossband. I bought the ft7900 and love it, and Im currently awaiting ups to deliver an ft8800 and I can’t decide which one will go in the shack.

    Both models are crossband capable.
    Both are FM only.

    FT8800 is a Dual Band 2M/440Mhz.
    FT8900 is Quad Band 2M/440/6M/10M

I enjoy my FT8800 its a good mobile
