SchmartBoard, the developer of a new technology that has significantly simplified the creation of electronic circuits for hobbyists and electronic engineers, announced today the First Annual Schmartie Awards to reward exceptional electronic circuit design.

Engineers, students and hobbyists from around the world are invited to enter the first annual Schmartie awards. From now through November 15th, entrants can post SchmartScematics (electronic circuits utilizing SchmartBoard prototyping products) for users to download and use in their own projects. In December, we will open up voting for the five favorite circuits. All registered user will be able to vote.

In January 2007 we will post the five winners who will receive an iPod Nano and a certificate. All participants who enter the contest and post a schematic per the instructions will receive free SchmartBoards to build their schematics and a SchmartBoard t-shirt. Details of the program are at http://www.schmartboard.com

Early Schmartie entrants include users from the US, Canada, India, Australia, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, France and Mexico. SchmartBoard hopes to attract participants from the worlds of robotics, Ham Radio, model railroading and other electronic hobby areas in addition to those involved in pure electronics.

Co-sponsors of the program include Hobby Engineering (http://www.hobbyengineering.com), Intellect Lab (http://www.intellectlab.com), R&D Electronic Parts (http://www.randdelectronicparts.com), Titan PCB (http://www.titanpcb.com) and Parallax (http://www.parallax.com).

About SchmartBoard (http://www.schmartboard.com)

SchmartBoard is committed to helping engineers, students, and hobbyists develop electronic circuits faster, easier, and less expensively than previously possible. At SchmartBoard, our three-word mission statement is “Electronics for Everyone”.

The ARRL Lab has worked with a manufacturer of arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) breakers to resolve complaints that Amateur Radio RF was causing certain breaker models to trip unnecessarily. Like the more common ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), the AFCI is a safety device. Primarily designed to detect problems that could result in a fire, AFCIs detect potentially hazardous arc fault…
