Hi Mr.Ray. I had the same problem on my i20 AVN. After a lot of trial and error, I traced the problem to my Transcend USB drive.
I changed it to a HP USB Drive, I am not facing this problem any more – totally error free.
No guarantee if it will work for you, but you can try and let me know….
Thank you for your feedback. I have now tried 5-6 different pen drives with various capacities. I currently use an HP drive on it.. but have tried, Sandisk, Trancend, and many others.. but I still face the issue. I have escalated this issue to their CEO Mr. Seo and it seems that there is some sort of manufacturing defect in the car. I have been told that due to electro-magnetic interference this is happening. They are currently in the process of testing a prototype wiring system to resolve this.
Just to add to this.. I have also noticed that when I’m driving with the system switched off, it comes on by itself indicating some type of a short circuit in the car’s electrical system. Also, at times even when I’m playing songs from my cell phone, they system automatically switches between the USB, Radio and CD system…
Please check if you are facing these issues.. if yes, then you need to report these immediately as it is possible that there is a manufacturing defect in the AVN models.
Hi Mr. Ray. No. I’m not facing the other issues you mentioned. Audio songs & Video clips (played from Pendrive) would hang about 50% of the time. When I changed the Pendrive, the problem disappeared. No other issues with the system. Songs from mobile, CD, etc. all playing ok. But yes, I will keep an eye out for any problems… Thanks for the info…
Some info – Our car model is Jan 2012. HP Pendrive is 4GB – the silver model.
You are welcome.. glad to hear that you don’t have other issues. One question though.. is your i20 the fluidic one or the older model?
Older model. Not new fluidic model.
Incidentally, I came to know that the AVN is not offered on the fluidic model at present. Only FYI.

Is your problem solved?
I mentioned your problem to a friend who heard the symptoms said there could be some (fully or partially internally) jammed switch in your system – maybe on the AVN system itself or on the Steering Wheel Remote control and cleaning the switches may help.
He is not a professional, but has some basic electrical experience. So please don’t take this advice completely.

Hyundai personnel confessed to me over a telephonic conversation that this variant of i20 (AVN) was released in the market without being properly road-tested!
The system also hangs while taking turn, which indicates a short circuit with the power steering. The system also switches on by itself at times when unprovoked. Also, at times it fails to identify any USB device plugged in to it.
Thank you for the info. However, it does not seem to be the case. I have had Hyundai Engineers from Korea R&D also come and check this out but to no result. They are not even able to determine or diagnose where the issue is; leave alone correct it. I have had the entire wiring harness, steering column, USB port, and the system itself changed multiple times under warranty.
Finally, Hyundai expressed their inability to correct this problem
I suppose I should consider myself VERY LUCKY! I have only had some initial problems (as mentioned earlier) which are now solved. No other problems…
Am really surprised and shocked that Hyundai would release a system so irresponsibly. I also understand now why the new Fluidic i20 is NOT having the AVN system.
Exactly. You are indeed very lucky. All the others who have this car (about 3/4 others) have the exact same problem. My power steering also locked up on 2 separate occasions. However, after a G-Scan nothing was revealed.
I have also had other odd problems with this car. The A/C gas once escaped and the service center could not figure out why. Also, the fuel meter inside the tank fell inside by itself. Really odd!
