Hi Why do you have the small balun ? Also , the reason why the reception
improves when you connected the ground wire is NOT because you gave it a
ground, rather you gave it more antenna. Ground conection wires longer than
a fraction of a wavelength lose their grounding properties and begin to act
as antennas. Really , ground wires for frequencies higher than the Medium
    Wave band are quite ineffective.

Yes You’re right ,when I first wire my box with 9:1 balun only and my
grounding wire was about 12feet reception was so bad and noisy from
environment around me so, i had to figure out something to compensate that
fact .I have found one forum discussing that problem and one person
suggested 1:1 balun 3 feet before radio to compensate for Electromagnetic
pollution ,i guess worked okay for me .at night my receiving antenna is
quiet and i can listen many DX stations

Adam, what magnet wire would you require to build this? And
what toroid material would you recommend? This looks like a great upgrade
from the single toroid coil project I have built before. Great job!
What would happen if you used 30 gauge or 26 gauge or 22 gauge?

Is this antenna tunable? I want to use it on MURS which would mean it would
need to be slightly shorter. Just wondering if there is a set screw at the
base to allow the whip to be moved up and down or trimmed as neccesary

Got one of these on my truck, no complaints. Although I did scrape the
little ball off the top on some limbs, doesn’t seem to affect performance.

Thanks for the information. I’ve muddled along without an external antenna
for ten years and am finally going to get one. I was looking at one of
these for my Yaesu and was surprised at the good reviews, but your
    validation sealed the deal.

    Hi n4ktz I have a question for you. I just ordered a Kenwood 281a and a
Tram 1185. Can you please tell me if I will need an adapter to connect this
antenna to my new Kenwood? And if I do can you point me to the correct
adapter I will need? Thanks very much
