hey socal. its a neat fix. i work for directv and i know the problem you are having. i notice your receiver is in a cabinet, so i assume your receiver is set to the rf setting for the remote. the difference is that the hr20 series all have external antennas for the rf remotes. and all the h21 through the hr34 series receivers have internal antennas that are on a different rf band. wich is probably more vulnerable to interference from the ham radio. its a neat fix i might use in the field

ft950 here too, its a nice radio. I run a 857D as well for travel.
Catch you on the waves some time! When are you usually on?

I do not use RF, u sing a harmony one remote from Logitech which is IR. I have searched countless message boards and came to this conclusion. its plain as day. there is a issue with this receiver. granted its not great that I have the antenna right over the dish nor is it good that I have the receiver under it as well. thanks for watching, and thanks for the feed back ( no pun intended LOL)

I left plenty of room for air to flow, the fans in this thing ( based on the sound ) are tiny, thanks for watching man !

good idea but is it going to stop the hot air in the DVR from exiting? Also what dod you decide on to put that antenna on the roof I couldn’t tell but thinkl it was a tripod?

its on 2 10 foot lengths of steel conduit… those were not legs of a tip pod, iot was para cord as guy lines. i left enough room around the edges for air to pass thru. no issues yet

I sold all my Ham gear a while ago, but was itching to get back into it. In the interim, had upgraded to the HR24. When I put up a small station with a TS480 I was amazed at the RFI issues with the receiver, but after having gone over grounding and everything else I could think of for the station could not come up with an answer. Couldn’t even use 25W on 20m, antenna at least 30′ from the dish/sat box. Oh well. Will have to find a way to pretty this up, but forums confirm this is the “fix”. 🙂

yes I tried everything, including grounding the dish itself, this was the only thing that worked. I have since put the receiver under the stereo ant that seems to block enough of the inbound rf to fix the issue.

Are you using an RF remote? I have two receivers (HR24 and HR23) that are experiencing the same problem. Both using an RF remote. I’m going to reset them to IR and see if that fixes my problem. My G5RV is directly above both receivers too!

That fixed it for me. Just tried it. Change your remote settings from rf to ir. You may need to invest in an IR repeater setup if you have yours hidden behind a cabinet. Or just build one. We’re hams. We build things.

Those receivers have a tendency to overheat too. Good idea leaving room. I install them for a living and know some techs who have a fan blowing on theirs to keep them cool.
