As Albania moves towards EU membership, this report delves into their vicious tradition of blood feuds, a system of honour enshrined in blood that has claimed 10,000 lives since the fall of communism.

“Ten years ago my father killed a man in a fight at work”, says 18-year-old Ahmet. “Since then, I haven’t left the house because my life would be in danger.” Ahmet is one of 800 youth in Albania forced into a life of isolation after becoming the target of a violent reprisal in ‘Kanun’, the ancient honour system. Trapped in his grandparents’ house for his own safety he lives in constant fear. But as Albania is in the process of EU accession, many like mediator Pashk Lleshi hope truces can pave the way for the prevention of blood feuds.

Sheer will power can overcome any lack of a certain gene, but it
interesting nonetheless to understand why someone might take to something
    more quicker than another.

I’m always amazed at how different my mom and I are as far as our body
composition goes. I am broad shouldered and busty with small hips and thin
limbs. My mom has narrow shoulders and a flat chest with a large bum, hips,
and legs. I guess I must have inherited my dad’s genes?

Badly titled, and its no secret that genes can have an impact on the way
your body responds to training. However there is no such thing as an
    ‘unfit’ gene.

The perfect excuse for fat acceptance. True or not they’ll still use it.
I guess everyone happens to have the unfit gene and is big boned and just
    born that way.

The genetic information reported in this video again raises the issues of
will and determinism; namely, if a XX is not informed of his or her
apparent lack of one or two Rs, could he or she by sheer will overcome said
deficiency to become a good sprinter? That is, should our will be guided by
genetic knowledge? More exactly, is the old adage, you may become anything
you so desire, the recipe for frustration rather than a source of
    encouragement?

This stuff is hardly surprising. However, “it’s genetic” is usually used by
people to to excuse obesity. Big-boned? Sure. On the chubby side? Possibly.
Being overweight to the point of having joint problems and shortness of
breath? Nobody is genetically destined for that, it’s the result of a
    really unhealthy lifestyle.

Good antidote to the view that peasant culture is groovy. It is not, as
Balzac showed. Roll on the day when higher culture renders vengeance-loving
    peasant culture obsolete.

The same Customs, the same Blood-Feud Laws are still used in Caucasus, among

The real miracle would be these people stop being stupid about revenge. OK
you take revenge on a killer by killing a family member. Then one of those
family members takes revenge in another. Fucking stupid.
